It kinda grates on me to see anyone denigrate a service member for not being in combat.. and I've been in combat. These are our brothers.

Old saying I didn't come up with it, but the soldier doesn't get to choose where he / she fights. I cannot understand , where are the savings exactly, if a Vet doesn't use the available, approved service?

This statement does NOT happen, no press releases stating, ''Because Marine Bill and Sailor Bethany didn't get their knee procedure and appendectomy via an approved VA benefit, those unused monies are returned to the general fund.''

I hear you. I get told all the time I'm not a "real" veteran and am not deserving of benefits. Had the units where I spent the first 2/3rds of my time ever had to engage in active combat operations the world would be a much different place and we probably wouldn't be sitting here having this conversation. When the tactical nukes started flying it would not have been long before the strategic warheads started raining down.

If being in combat is what makes someone a veteran 90% of the men and women that served wouldn't be veterans. Combat troops wouldn't last very long if it were not for support troops.
