Track record, anyone with any sense isn't going to believe much of anything they print. The part about "assault rifles" (sic) being commonly used in crimes is crap. All rifles combined account for only 2.8% of homicides annually.

I give you full credit for looking up the FBI stats but, the reporter didn't say assault weapon crimes were going up, the Police Chief did.
According to the article, the reporter got his stats on those five states from, you guessed it, The Brady bunch!
And no I absolutely dont trust Reuters based on personal experience, I didn't need the photoshop incident to reach that conclusion.

And note that it took FOUR of 'em to write it. Any ONE of the previous posters could, and did, show it was a work of fiction.
The other high point is that Reuters is big in financial reporting. Anyone question if stock prices have been 'fudged' or 'reuterized'?

This is what is called "cherry picking your data" - How about all of the other states with gun laws similar or weaker than the listed states? Well we didn't mention those because they don't support the theme we are trying to construct. Isn't Florida the state where Brady was claiming you can be shot down in the street for no reason at all? How come they didn't make the top five?
Note also that the metric they use to measure is "gun death rates" not murder involving firearms. This means they get to include things like gang on gang violence as well as 72yr old men with terminal cancer committing suicide. Suicide by firearm accounts for almost half of all gun deaths. Do gun control proponents really believe that suicide is best solved by gun control?
Pure propaganda and media spin; but really just like a magician's act. Once you know how the trick is done, it is easy to figure out how the illusion is created.

Doesn't Alaska have far and away the highest suicide rate in the country during the winter months when it's dark practically 24/7? Family and friends I have that live up there have snowmobiles and other things to keep them entertained during the winter because apparently it can get very depressing.

As to "gun violence" and "gun deaths", don't you all hate it when your guns go crazy and turn to violence and one of your guns dies? I know I do.
It ain't gun violence, it's violence perpetrated with a gun. It ain't a gun death, it is death perpetrated with a gun.
It takes the criminal act off the shoulders of the criminal and places it on the gun. It is the same as "possession of an illegal gun" verses "Illegal possession of a gun". The gun isn't illegal, it is the person not allowed to possess a gun who commits the crime. (Disclaimer: For the sake of discussion, the Second Amendment to the Constitution is notwithstanding here.)

Haha. True gun violence and gun deaths is those poor guns that get melted down/destroyed in the police buy backs so their greedy owner can have dinner at the Outback or get a new pair of high-tech sneakers (that they'll probably get killed for, oops probably shouldn't have turned in that gun)

When people see a magician perform a magic show they walk away asking how did he do that? Unfortunately when they see statistics which can be quoted or created by anyone with an agenda (insert organization here), most people take it as gospel and don't bother looking it up.

Strict gun laws do not seem to correlate either way with high or low rates of intentional homicide.
When one looks at a homicide map of the US, one observes right away that most counties are relatively untouched by intentional homicide compared to the staggering clusters of homicides around major cities.
Kommando, I'll bet if you did an overlay of that map with strict gun control laws, they would overlap to a very large degree. I'm not saying that strict gun control laws cause violence and murder. Rather, violence and murder occur much more often in heavily populated urban centers DESPITE strict gun laws. There are may, many other factors in play, and the ineffective band aid of gun control will never address them. Hence, DCs laws get stricter and more people die because they refuse to address the root cause.
