just curious, does Remington give Wal-Mart a lessor or a "seconds" 700 Remy or are they just like all the other dealers ?
thanks

They are exactly the same. Wally world is cheaper because they buy thousands nationwide at greatly reduced prices.

Wally worlds

I was looking at the bolt guns and noticed they were actually on sale. WOW

I say buy any gun in a common caliber and then go back and buy another one.

After the tax check arrives, I am heading to get either a .243 or a .270 to go with my ..2 .308 and .30-30, 12 ga x 2 and 20ga.

Something to note, I just learned this after starting there yesterday. I have been told by a co-worker that one of the great reasons to work for them is because the employee discount applies to guns and ammo.

Unfortunately it takes 90 days to get a discount card.

Walmart gets all there guns from lipseys... At lease around here they do.... same as alot of sporting goods stores... and i dont recomend ordering one, but if its on the shelf, go for it...

The quality of a Walmart gun will be the same. They tend to keep more of the budget guns in stock however. Since they are such a large buyer they can get gun companies to produce special runs of guns that can only be purchased through Walmart. The same could be said of Sears, K-Mart and other large retailers in the past.

Wal-mart also uses sports south and a couple of others depending on where they are; but, these are special order (catalog). Our bread and butter, 10/22s, 700s, etc., actually come from "the warehouse" where a poster above me is right; they buy thousands at a time, like a wholeseller, and get a better price.

Same thing happens at Academy to a slightly lesser degree. That's why "smaller" gun shops can't complete on rifles like 10/22s, plain jane 700s, etc.

Walmart

I have heard that alot of the guns Walmart carries are usually guns other people have sent back to the manufacturer for different reasons. These might be defects and guns that may not be mechanically funtioning correctly. The guns are then gone through at the factory and then are sold to Walmart. Again this is what I've heard and I do not know this to be fact. I personally don't buy firearms from Walmart for the simple fact they don't have a smith there and alot of times the guy working the counter usually has very little knowlege of firearms and is just there to make a sale. Go to a reputable gunshop with a qualified gunsmith and you'll be better off in the long run. Scott

That is 100% BS. Back in the day when wal-mart actually would accept returns on firearms they had to mark and discount a "used" gun according to policy. We stopped taking returns and stop sending guns out for repairs b/c of the ATF BS. Simply it's too much time, paper work and too high of a chance of issues.

It sucks cause you could get a deal because of buyer's remorse.

what is your source for this? There is NO differance

Lipseys sells guns to A TON of places, That is where walmart gets there guns. I doubt lipseys says "hey we need a walmart special" when they ship out.

next time at walmart ask who they get there guns from.... they will pull out a Lipseys book.

they are cheaper there because the mom and pop shops cant survive like walmart can on 3-4% markup, so they mark up more... walmart can do this because of the total store sales volume.

That makes a good story and probably one I would tell if I owned a gun store and had to sell rifles at prices considerably above WalMarts.

The major difference is service. Buy a rifle and scope from WalMart and buy mount and rings at the local shop and the local shop will probably charge you to put everything together and bore sight it for you. Buy the same stuff from the local shop and chances are that they will be happy to mount the scope and bore sight the rifle as part of the deal.

And don't kid yourself, the guy behind the counter at the local gun shop with or without a smith on site is there to make a sale too.

And there are supposedly enough of these returned guns available to keep Wal Marts across the US supplied on a regular basis for many years:rolleyes:

Let's see , I have been buying guns for close to 30 years now and only returned one gun in that time. How many guns have others here returned in all their years of gun buying? We must do our part to keep Wal Mart supplied:D

I have bought at least 6 guns from "Wallyworld" over the last 12 years and they always had prices 10-15% cheaper than all the other gun shops I checked. The most accurate .243 Winchester I own is a "Wallyworld" Remington ADL (closeout) for $320.00. It also came with an unusually long #2 24" barrel. I checked the Remington catalog & I couldn't find anything like that except ones with a varmint sized #3 or #4 barrel.
