So why doesn't one of us post this up on a couple of hunting forums and see where it gets us. Nothing like some some hunters joining us for the fight. I actually think this is a good thing if we can now motivate more hunters to become proactive about the 2nd

I don't know who you think is in here but there are thousands of hunters amongst us at THR. Myself included.

Isn't the point of this thread that we need to go and post this little bit of drivel on some of the hunting forums.

While we all like to sit here and talk about how rediculous this is there are hundreds of thousands of hunters that need to hear this. I just told one of my colleagues about this and I thought he was going to fall backwards out of his chair. All of those guys at the range that snub their nose at you for bringing your AR.... send them a copy of this and they just may start being your best friend when they find out their a$$ is also in a sling.

I think I am going to spend a little time on some of the hunting forums this afternoon. While a few have posted here saying that they understand the scope of the Brady Campaign and what thier end goals are, I would argue that a majority do not. They think much like our famed friend at OL who shot his mouth off about AR-15s and believe the Brady Bunch will never try and touch there ol hunting rifles.

no i've heard it all....30-30 penetrating an armored vehicle? Better make sure those insurgents in iraq don't get .30-30's or they will be able to shoot right through a Bradley or an Abrams

What is very obvious to readers of this type of drivel is

1) they do not understand that many of us shoot guns, yes, even at paper targets, for FUN!!!!!! I think it is fun to shoot big bore rifles. Why should my legal fun be curtailed for their myopic views?

2) they have no clue as to what hunting entails, seeming to think one just goes down the road, finds a deer and shoots at it from 10-20 yards, halfway blowing it to pieces with a single shot, and then picking up those pieces to barbecue, gettin home in less than an hour.

I really wish we could take all these brady bunch types and drop them off in remote african bush areas and then do a survey of their opinions on guns, those few who come out alive.:fire:

As I am no hunter what are a few popular hunting forums that have large followings and many members. They really need to hear this stuff

100 meter = 109.361 yards

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Less than the length of a football feild by 10 yards, and people have no reason what so ever to shoot at these distances.

Actually, 100 meters is almost 10 yards MORE then the length of a football field. Truely terrifying, eh? ;)

FIRST, Jim Zumbo is a FRIGGIN' IDIOT and DESERVES to be slammed...

SECOND, I have a nice leather sling, a Harris 25-C Bipod, and a Burris 2.5-10X50 scope on my 30-06 Springfield caliber Savage 110-E rifle, in a Bell & Carlson black fiberglass stock...

I USE this rifle to shoot Deer, Muledeer, Antelope, and Elk... Neveer really thought of it as a "sniper rifle"... I guess I have an EVIL gun, eh?

Whoops, and I thought it was only us "evil black rifle types" :neener:

Seriously though, has anyone taken this and posted it on any hunting forums. I take it at face value that anyone here at highroad.org knows well enough that all firearms are at risk with the anti second amendment rights groups. You then have to look at the blog of the great Zumbo to realize that there are a lot of hunters that feel the same way he does. Crap like the above sure could help galvanize our cause. and it can't possibly hurt to go and tell as many as we can.

I think I want a crack as a Bradyite Blogger. Proof that guns are getting more dangerous is all around us.

They do not know a .22 can travel a mile.

That's what Mr. McDougal, our strangely speach-impeded shop teacher/firearms instructor, would say to my 1976 middle school rifle club, "the .22LR bullet can travel up to a mile". Mr. McDougal's pronouncements would always be followed by my friend Carl whispering the aside, "the Duck has spoken". Ah, good times.

But now, merely a day ago, what do I see on the side of a Winchester SuperX .22LR box? ".22LR is dangerous out to 1-1/2 miles". That's a 50% increase in thirty years! Grandpa's squirrel gun is now a spitfire.

Similarly, the .30-30 started out as a 19th century, smokeless-powder 200yd deer gun. Now, according to the Brady hysteria, it is an armored car stomping, cop-killing beast. They must know of Carlos Halfcock's hush-hush, 987mi, Saigon-to-Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh head-shot on Sep. 2, 1969, using a Winchester 1894 levergun.

1.
long distance
well over one hundred meters.

2.
derail freight cars[...]and cause complete chaos.
Guess we should ban SUVs....

3.
Sniper Rifles shoot a high powered bullet that is almost always fatal.
when used on sporting sized game at range they often just wound the animal

4.
penetrate multiple police cars
So can microwaves: ban bluetooth!

5.
these weapons of mass destruction.
So the Dragunovs in Iraq are WMDs, huh

6.
600-pound safe with 600 pounds of safe armor plating.....

I'd like to see a rifle bullet punch through 600lbs of solid metal

7.
"Another rifle caliber, the 30.30 caliber, was responsible for penetrating three officers' armor and killing them in 1993, 1996, and 2002.

And here I am thinking the shooter was the one responsible :barf:

8.
Should our elected officials live under the threat of reprisal on their lives from disgruntled constituents? The Gun Lobby seems to think so. We disagree.

Specious logic...

9.
Sniper Rifles are typically equipped with a high-powered scope, and every single one of them can blow through the body armor cops wear[...]Senator Ted Kennedy attempted to solve this with an important bill that would have banned armor piercing ammunition and protected lawful firearm commerce:

Are the rifles or the ammo the problem? Make up your mind

10.
Sniper Rifles can be equipped with precision optics above even what the Military uses, allowing a sniper to deliver rounds within millimeters of accuracy

Maybe at extremely long ranges like 100 meters :p Someone better tell the elite snipers of the world that they don't measure up, after all MOA = millimeter of angle :neener:

11.
well over one hundred meters. Is there a pressing need to be able to kill with accuracy at that distance? It is too far to justify as self defense. It is too far for hunting. It is only useful for those who wish to murder from afar.

Too far for hunting?
Too far to justify as self defense - so if someone fires on a military installation from 101 yards, they can't fire back under ROE?

12.
Sniper Rifles have been used by murderers and spree killers for years, with notable incidents such as the Beltway Snipers, the Clocktower Sniper, and more.

Had to really dig to find the "Clocktower Sniper" - 1966. Two high profile "sniper" crimes in the 20th Century...and one was w/ a AR (guess this guy thinks every M4/M16/AR15 is a sniper rifle)

There's loads more to critique, but I'm getting bored. Such drivel isn't worthy of continued consideration.

I'm pumped.

If Brady hasn't managed to insulate themselves with sufficient plausible deniability from the "ban Remmie 700s" dweeb on myspace, wonderful stuff may ensue.

A copy of the myspace mutterings will make its way to my gun club - twice. The second appearance timed to coincide with the start of hunting season.

Hunters that belong to the NRA, GOA et al or post on THL or TFL will not be surprised. However, it would be delightful to see a reprint in Bass Pro's mailings. Or Cabela's or Gander.

How does one mirror the current state of the Brady myspace blog? One would expect that the more politically aware bunch will hasten to lecture the myspace drone on the finer points of screwing the pooch and deny me my fun.

Satire warning

"These terrible sniper machine guns will blow locomotives off the track! They will leave your refrigerator door ajar until all the dairy products go bad! They will sneak in and leave dirty socks on your coffee table just before you have a dinner party!"
Why are they called "Liberals" when they want to take things away?

{/rant} I feel better now. Thanks for listening. ;)

Every time I hear Ted Kennedy's name mentioned my blood boils. His family made their money bootlegging and his car has killed more people than my guns have. He still has his license and he's trying to take my guns? grrrr

Large caliber Sniper Rifles such as the .50 Browning Machine Gun can derail freight cars

This was my favorite. Where do they come up with this non sense?

Now, now. I'd imagine that if you position a Barrett just right on the tracks you could probably do it.
