My gf told me I am "crazy" for having my pistol nearby 99% of the time while I am at home (can't carry in NJ :cuss:)

In this day & age, you can't be too careful. While we were on the subject I explained to her that she should go with me to the range to get familar w/my guns and learn how to use them b/c, god forbid, I'm not home one day and someone breaks in. I'd blame myself if something happened to her.

This zombie horse really needs to be left to moulder in its grave. Please.

If you really want to know all the sorrows of all the guys on here who have talked about this, the search function will yield you HOURS of reading.

Sure you can. Anytime you let fear rather than an honest assessment of the risks rule your life, you are being too careful. As for blaming yourself, keep in mind that she is an adult human being, same as you. Doesn't make any sense to blame yourself for things you cannot control. Make the offer to teach her, but leave it at that...

The only sorrow I've had is when my wife found out that I'd left the house without a gun.

"What are you going to do if someone wants to hurt us? How can you protect me and Tristan (the baby) without a decent self-defense tool?"
:uhoh:

I won't make that mistake again :D

ah, this is never an untimely topic of discussion IMHO.

before last year's awful Cheshire, CT home invasion/rapes/murders ... she thought I was nutzo.

afterwards, she got her own freakin' carry permit.

My wife is fine that I carry, and she often carries herself. When we're at home. I'll have a pistol on my hip, and if I'm leaving, she will get one of her pistols out.

Just last weekend when loading the day pack for a family day hike both my son and my wife commented that things would be easier if I just got a concealed carry permit.

Last month DH and I took the conceal carry class and applied for our permits together.

It was his idea, but after he explained his reasoning -- we have a home business and NC regulations required that the physical address, not just the PO Box be on public record as part of the business license -- I agreed. Especially since I'm home alone sometimes and because we go through some nasty areas occasionally when traveling to visit relatives.

IMO, women who are fearful when their men carry guns are either naive, poorly-educated about firearms, or hanging out with the wrong men.

Note: If you're meticulously responsible about other things in life, such as putting the toilet seat down, making sure the dirty socks land in the hamper instead of beside the hamper, and keeping your tools in good order it will be easier for her to believe that you will also always be responsible in your gun safety procedures. Remember, we ladies are hard-wired to worry about our kids and we aren't always 100% rational about it. ;) :D

Houston, Texas.. I keep my pistol around me all the time because I simply can't stop trying to figure out what position is most comfortable and how I might make money one day sharing my experience with others...

And the added bonus of millions of people, a lot of them very shady, within a stone's throw!

My fiance is essential to all of this, because she constantly is surprised when I show her I am armed, which gives me the idea that I have successfully concealed a pistol on my person+ comfortably, securely, safely, and with mild innovation.

It's just a tool.. I don't understand people who don't understand that.. TV I guess.

my wife was neither really pro/ anti gun when we met, we have been together since we were in highschool she wasn't raised around them the way that i was, and at first it wasn't tuff i would say but she didn't understand, but she is totally for it now, and often asked before we go some where, and the answer is always "you know it babe!"

we have come along way over the years, she has taken one of my guns as her own and she is even planing on getting her ccw.

My girlfriend is bemoaning the fact she has to get training to get her CCW here in CO.

We're on the same page re: guns. :)

At home if she can't see it she knows it is on me. And when we leave she will ask if I am carrying as if she had to. But the only steadfast rule in our house is, if I shoot her gun I clean it and if she shoots mine she cleans them. Getting married February 7,2008.

If I'm awake and not legally encumbered I'm carrying. It is an accepted part of our family life. My wife supports it and expects it.

My wife also has her CWL though typically doesn't carry, the other day she mentioned she is going to start carrying more often because she doesn't want to have to depend on me to protect her.

Over the weekend my mother in law was in town (also has her CWL) and was watching me feed my 8 month old daughter, remarked how it was funny to see a gun on the belt and a baby spoon in the hand.

My wife replied, "he is ready to defend his daughter" :). She gets it and I'm lucky.

I have said this before so forgive the repetition. If you and your s/o are not on the same page about guns, things are gonna rough down the road. Me and the wife are sitting here wearing guns and surfing the posts, sipping soda and eating homemade cookies, happy as we can be, later we will go to the senior center for ice cream, pity the fool that tries to upset our happy life.

When my wife and I moved to Colorado, we were a little upset at having to take a course to get our CCW. We took a course together with Larry Johnson of On Target Firearms Training and liked it so much we took the second course. Even though I've been shooting most of my life I learn something new and reinforce good habits.

My bride has her CCW, and her own firearms. She doesn't carry every day,...but often enuff,....but she knows that I do,...and expects it to be that way. She has no problem with that concept at all. Took her into a gun shop one day and told her to not be surprised at anything I may do in the next thirty minutes,...$ 750 dollars later,....her only question was had I picked up enuff ammo to "proof fire it?".......

My gf thinks guns are the root of all evil and the world would be better off without them. She won't even look at, touch, or talk about them. Tough cookie ! ... and she is the most conservative, Republican, from a career military officer's family. I cannot figure it.

While I agree with her that the world might be better off without any, they are here and getting to know about them, and how to use them in a safe, efficient and accurate manner seems wise. She won't even consider it. When I go off to a Tactical weapon Match at the Club I belong to, she goes shopping.

my wife didnt really see the necesity in ccw. she said "it's a false sense of security". and she scoffed at me when i said she should get her CHL or at least some mace since at the time she worked at night until like 2am at the mall (you know how malls are at night).

now, i have my CHL, and she says she would like to get hers bc she gets scared leaving the parking lot at work at night (works somewhere else now, actually a bank. until 9pm....one would think less scary than the previous job). anyway. I totally support it, i would like her to know how to defend herself if the need arose.

she's still a little iffy about me carrying a loaded gun around our 5 mo old daughter...but I would say she is definitely coming around.

for fathers day we got our daughter a little purplish pink dress that says "I <3 my daddy's Kalashnikov!" :D

My girlfriend grew up in a family that was big into hunting so she is fine with long guns but doesn't see the need for a pistol.

I have since gotten her to come around and let me buy a pistol after a few nights where things went bump and all I had was a bat.

She still doesnt think I need to carry one though :(

Mine tells me that I had better give her gun back, and find a different one that I'd like to carry!
