Keeping my best guns locked in a safe while I use/carry only my cheap guns, means that I'm depriving myself of using the guns I like best. Life's too short for that, in my opinion. I like to carry/use the very best I have. That's what I bought them for.
I think maybe you guys misunderstood the statement. BrainDead0 said he keeps ALL his favorite guns locked up... because if you are involved in a shooting, when the police come, they very well may search your house, and since a crime has been committed on the scene, they won't need a warrant.
They'll look behind doors, in closets and drawers, under pillows and mattresses, etc. Anywhere they find a firearm, they may confiscate it. It's not an issue of losing just the EAA, but if you have 3 or 4 pistols exposed, you could quite possibly have 3 or 4 pistols taken away. Sometimes, they don't come back.
To answer KC's question, my HD is an HK USP45 with attached UTL and a spare mag, all loaded with 230gr Golden Sabres. It's locked up tight in a
www.handgunsafe.com single pistol safe mounted, bolted, and cabled to anything and everything I could find next to and including the bed.
I have a nearly identical safe setup on the other side of the bed for my wife on the times I have to work at night for a stage move to production. It's got a Walther P99, spare mag, and Streamlight Scorpion in it. Hers carries 135grain Federal Personal Defense ammo at the moment.
Everything else is locked up in the big safe.
