London, 1961. I was in the Navy, our boat stopped by England on our way to a Northern Run.

We'd walk into a pub and before we could say anything, a beer would be put in front of us and the landlord would say "On the house, mates.". And before we could finish it, another round would appear bought by somebody else.

There were times being in uniform was nice and this was one of them. Also, we did the tourist bit and whenever we'd go to pay an admission charge, we'd be waived through.

People in the street would say "Hello" and old women would pull the collar on our jumpers (they believed it was good luck).

I'm sitting here with a small smile on my face just remembering other ...Ummmm .... "things that happened".

Most friendly.......Texas, Oklahoma and Kern County California.

Least..................Orange County, California

Ive lived in Northwest Indiana all of my life, with Gary on one side and Chicago on the other and the domination of Chicago led media I am pretty sure it is not a good representation of the entire state. That being said, I noticed a more friendly attitude when I went to Georgia on business last year. People seemed more apt to start talking to a stranger and smiling then what I am used to. Not sure about the gun issue though. I've been to New York - and thought the rudeness rep was overblown.

Texas and North Carolina, in my experience (I agree that New Hampshire is likely just as good, but have never had the privilege of living there).
