What is the most recent knife you bought?

Dang... That looks sharp! (no pun intended, seriously :) )

.

The maker is on another forum I frequent, I have 3 knives from him so far and I should have bought double that number but I didn't want to be a hog. He's a true custom maker producing maybe 2-3 knives a week. He's studied tracker knives for a while and is an exper on them. I am just starting to get into them.

I bought a nice Shun knife as a gift for my son a few months ago, nice but pricy. Since I wouldn’t spend that much for a kitchen knife personally, decided to try this Kanetsune instead.

Similar size, a little less than 4”, but less than 10% of the price, under $10. Decidedly lesser quality steel, 420, but figured I’d take a chance for that price, and hey, it comes with a cherry handle and cherry sheath. lol

It cuts nicely, had the typical thin Asian blade angle, and is made in Japan, not China.

So far I like it, and should be able to easily sharpen it when that becomes necessary.

I see it as an alternative to my inexpensive Victorinox paring knives, just a couple of bucks more, but much more visibly appealing. You won’t mistake it for a Shun, but at that price I don’t see a problem.

BladeHQ carries them, but I was able to get it from Walmart online for $9 and change, shipped.

Took delivery on this Old Hickory Kephart today.

You inspired me to get one as well to compare to the exact copy of the Kephart built from handling Ethan Becker's that I own.

Killer deal at that price. If Horace Kephart were presented it I'm sure he'd make a couple of tweaks and carry it into the woods to set up camp.

Nice knife hso, I like quite a few of their knives. Been looking to add a couple of them to my collection.

Machete? o_O There nothing of a chopper in that style.

The grip cants down from the blade to improve the thrusting angle. It is purely a weapon. The design philosophy can be found in certain Filipino knives and fencing grips.

Thanks hso.

I never thought of the thrusting motion... makes sense.

With the sizes I see some of them I just assumed more of a swing motion... then got to assuming maybe chopping branches... not logs on the ground.

Stupid me shoulda asked a long time ago.

Don't say stupid, just more to learn. Stupid people don't try to learn.

Thank you. NOT to derail this great thread, when I'm in 'manager' mode, I tell my team 'There are no stupid (legitimate) questions... just stupid answers. Ask questions... ask the same type questions again in different ways, if it helps. My goal is that for when I'm gone, I'm not needed....hopefully missed, but not needed."

it's not bad. a little smaller than I was expecting, and I'm not a huge fan of the pocket clip, or of the deep carry clip I put on it, but I do like the blade.

2 week update: I like the blade more and more, and it carries nicely, though I continue to be annoyed by the clip options. (I'm super picky though) The issue that has arisen though is the three machined notches on the axis lock and thumbstuds. They are sharp. You don't notice it at first, but if you fidget with it a while, you really start to feel them. And they kind of grab your pocket when you pull the knife out.
