I bought a nice Shun knife as a gift for my son a few months ago, nice but pricy. Since I wouldn’t spend that much for a kitchen knife personally, decided to try this Kanetsune instead.
Similar size, a little less than 4”, but less than 10% of the price, under $10. Decidedly lesser quality steel, 420, but figured I’d take a chance for that price, and hey, it comes with a cherry handle and cherry sheath. lol
It cuts nicely, had the typical thin Asian blade angle, and is made in Japan, not China.
So far I like it, and should be able to easily sharpen it when that becomes necessary.
I see it as an alternative to my inexpensive Victorinox paring knives, just a couple of bucks more, but much more visibly appealing. You won’t mistake it for a Shun, but at that price I don’t see a problem.
BladeHQ carries them, but I was able to get it from Walmart online for $9 and change, shipped.
