What is your favorite "inferior caliber" gun?

Picked it up in a small gun shop here in Western Pa. I don't think they knew much about them, but I've wanted one since the article in the Guns Digest 1979 Anniversary Edition.

Depends where you physically are (ie. not at the range), but usually the quickest way to stop the laughter is to say "Yeah, but at least I'm carrying - are you?"

Folks get a tad thoughtful at that point

I am definitely going to use this if anyone starts BS'n me about a .380 auto. I sure as heck wouldnt want to suck up a Corbon JPH round at seven feet..... It'd 100% ruin my day (if I have another after that) hehe.

My Kel-tec P32 that just plain works every time. That is why it will be always used as a bug!

It's funny how people look at a .38 and think since it has a long (partially empty) case that it must be far superior to the .380. Every test I've seen rates them at approximately the same level of energy and tissue damage. I definitely don't think it's "inferior" in any way as it performs as well as a .38 and is just a small step behind .45/.40/9mm/.357.

Most "internet handgun experts' couldn't pass a high school physics or biology course if they had the exam in advance. They've never seen a single gun shot wound much less hundreds. (And hundreds would still be a small sample.) I wouldn't pay a lick of attention to their "expert theories" on handgun terminal ballistics.

I have to agree. Though the larger calibers appeal to me (and all of us) a varying hole of .3-.7" through a body destroying soft tissue, organs, and muscle fibers in a .001 of a second is devestating.

A dead center shot is a dead center shot. Too much speculation and much less concrete evidence seeps into our gun culture with wives tales. More morgue pictures from automatics might work? Lets post some of those of people getting hit from .32s and .380s and showing the autopsy with the blackend tissue 4-5" in diameter from the original wound entrance/exit hole.... that would be in poor taste but I think the point comes across very well so I will stop there. :D

No bad taste mortuary pictures but here is a Gel test with a .380 :D Take a peek...

My Kel tec P-3At first generation. I know they were supposed to of had some problems but mines been perfect. After I had it a couple of weeks KT traded me the blued slide and barrel for chromed versions for only $20.00. They used to do that quite a bit. Mines fired everytime. Actually is pretty accurate even with just the paintmark sights. Can hit small cans and bottles with it at 15 yards with boring regularity. And it will absolutely go where almost nothing else but a .22, .25., or .32 would normally go.

My center console in my truck houses a Bersa Thunder 380cc and I love it. It's been 100 percent reliable and I wouldnt hesitate to use it for social work while it's in easy reach.

I'm sure if I would rank my Mak as an inferior calibre. Its beefier than a .380 and more firepower than a .38 snubbie.

No my Z-70 in .32ACP I consider to be my long Sat Night Special - having only cost me $ 99. But I don't know of anyone who would want to stop 6-7 of the hotter .32 ball rounds at close range.

I think the place where .38 might beat .380 is penetration. A .38 can handle a much heavier bullet, whereas a .380 maxes out around 95-100 grains due to case capacity and length restrictions.

That said, I consider the shooter to be far more important than the tool. A .380 in the hands of a cool, skilled individual is probably far better protection than a .44 in the hands of a person who fired a few shots when they bought it, then put it in a drawer.

All my best,
Dirty Bob

I like my P3AT, but it is NOT fun to shoot.
The Mak is great, but I am partial to military arms.

No one carries a true "man stopper" round. Basic physics. 9mm, 40, 45... they are all anemic rounds, no matter how they are loaded. At close range, I have high confidence in my 380. Confidence that it will help get out of a bad situation.
