I know that we've all batted the "What one gun would you chose if you could only have one". But my question is "What is your favorite Pistol Cartridge and why?"

Of course if you have a favorite gun in that caliber please post a pic!

.22. Accurate in my S&W 17. Quality ammo always goes off in my single six, bearcat, Ruger standard. Ammo is cheap, Second would be .22 mag because I like my KelTec P30 so much. Light, easy to carry, 30 rounds +1 in the tube.

That's a hard question. I like the 38/357 but I also like the .22LR. While I shoot more .22LR than anything else I think if I had to own only one it would be a 4" .357 Magnum revolver.

.38 Special to hunt light game, the .357 Magnum for heavier game, both for SD.

My least favorite of past in the only one I use now. I do like 10x25 because ammo selection is poor and prices high. I do hate to shoot so 10x25 works out great for me, but it's probably poor choice for just about anybody else on this board.

.22LR

I would never use it for self defense (9mm CCW, .38spl bedside), hunting (30-30 rifle, 10mm sidearm), or just about anything at all except just having fun shooting. But for just having fun shooting, it's the absolute best. Put a silencer on it and you can blow up pine cones without waking up the neighbors for just a few dollars a week.

Commander length springfield armory trp operator full rail in 9mm. This gun doesnt even exist but if it did I would have two. I do have two full rail trp operators in .45acp but they are full size and heavy as f***

This is a tough question for most of us. I try to shoot 7 different handgun calibers on a regular basis and enjoy them all. But if I had to choose just one it would be the 357 Mag. It is an extremely accurate caliber with a large bullet selection. It can be loaded on mild side for target or hot for hunting/self defense. I can reload target loads for not much more than 22 ammo costs.

.22LR and the 9 x 19. Both are fairly inexpensive to shoot, readily available, and have a large selection of guns to choose from to use them in.
My personal favorites (today LOL),
Ruger Mark III hunter .22 LR. makes bunny and squirrel hunting a serious challenge again.
Accurate as all get out on the range as well.

Springfield EMP 9mm. The ergonomics. The dead solid reliability. Very, very accurate for such a small gun. Everyone who shoots it says "I want one". It is a fun gun, and has won it's fair share of pin shoots against it's larger siblings.

Since we are in Handguns: Revolvers, it's a tossup for me. I have always had a running love affair with the .357 Magnum cartridge and the .44 Magnum. I have an old S&W Model 29-5 with non fluted cylinder I love for .44 Mag and am also a Ruger Super Redhawk fan. I just replaced a nice Colt Python I parted with years ago with a minty '72 Python. Following .44 Mag and .357 Mag there would be the .45 LC cartridge in a Ruger Redhawk.

45 ACP.. easiest to reload.

It can also be had in a revolver.

Moving to handguns: general.

Danged hard, but if I have to choose, I'll go with .45 ACP. Not only is it one of my all time favorites, but you can load it light, medium, or full power, and it's chambered in both autos and revolvers.

Question? This is in the revolvers section but makes reference to "Pistols". Now I may be wrong but doesn't pistol imply semi-automatic handgun while revolver is a revolver?

So anyway, if we can toss in .45 ACP (which can be fired in pistol or revolver) I like that too. Saw a Ruger today chambered for .45 ACP and .45 LC (two cylinder) that I liked. :) They are hard not to like.

Also, per my last post here are my 3 personal favorites:

S&W Model 29-5 .44 Magnum
Ruger Redhawk .45 LC
Colt Python .357 Magnum

I found one of those in 7.65 with Nazi markings and two original magazines. I passed on it because that gun has about the worst magazine release one could get. One could probably reload DA action revolver with speed loader faster.

Since my favorite isnt necessarily limited to by what I CCW or shoot most. It will have to choose 44mag. Its just something about the power and recoil that says. Oh Yeaahh!!!! (for those that remember the Kool-Aid mascot)

Whichever I happen to be shooting at the time :D

I like .22LR because it is cheap and accurate and fun to shoot from a Ruger Standard with a red dot.

I like 9mm because it is cheap, accurate and low recoil for a "big boy" gun.

I like .38/.357 because it is accurate and can be powerful

I like .40S&W because it is cheaper than .45ACP and powerful

I like .45 ACP because it is powerful accurate and that is what 1911s come in

I like .45 Colt because in my Ruger Blackhawk I can load it just as hot as .44 Magnum.

Hands down the .22LR. I don't know where I'd be without it and the dozen or so pistols that chamber it.

A very close second and third would be the .44Spl and .44Mag and I don't mean from the same guns. I shoot these more than any other centerfire. Probably why I own seven .44Mag's and four .44Spl's. Plus two .44Colt's.

I'm also very fond of the .32-20, .32H&R, .38Spl, .38-40, .45ACP, .45Colt and .480Ruger.

WHY do we have to have a ' favorite'? WHATHA'ELL is a favorite ???
ANY cartridge can do what it can do and no more.
JUST in case you wonder, I load for every pistol cartridge from 25ACP to 454CASULL and EVERY stop, in between, excepting one, the 357SIG [as it does NOT do what it is supposed to do...]
This is always the silliest of questions raised at least once a year.
GO BUY A NEW COPY OF " CARTRIDGES OF THE WORLD " and ask again when you've seen the light; and you will; and you will laugh !!!!
And so it goes...

.45ACP all the way.

Now I like shooting pretty much any caliber I can get my hands on, but none of them put a smile on my face the same way a big ol' .45 does, especially when fired from a 1911. And I've heard every caliber argument there is, and I do carry "lesser" calibers quite often, but there's something about packing a .45 on my hip that I trust.
