First started shooting with .22 rifles as a young boy.
First gun I ever owned was a 1851 navy replica in .44 cap and ball
But if we're talking modern firearms then my first was a S&W 5906
I still have 'em both (=

My first gun was a Ruger Security Six, 357 MAG, 6" barrel. Picked it up in a pawn shop. It's still the most accurate hand gun I own - until it starts to get hot.

Oddly enough, it was also the first hand gun I ever fired. I was 46, and hung onto the gun with all my might, and after the first round downrange, I learned you don't need to make the grip panels ooze out between your fingers to control it.

Walther P22 for me, wanna say around 2004. I wanted something cheap (it was ~$300 at the time) and something cheap to shoot, at the time 500 rounds of .22 was ~$15.

I am an oddball. My first privately owned firearm was a .40S&W. Still own it, still carry it, and its still my favorite.

herrwalther, I'm with you on .40 S&W, and so are a few others. .22 LR is the most popular, but I would say ~40% of the votes for it suggest that your first gun doesn't have to be a .22 LR like some suggest.

Ruger Security 6 357 Magnum . Stolen in 84 if found return Full police report serial number and the name of who probably stole it .. still waiting on getting it back

Other-
.177 RWS Diana break-action pellet gun when I was eight or nine. It also shot darts. I loved that gun. Like many of my childhood treasures, it disappeared from my parents' home while I was in the Army.
Rosebud.

12ga Winchester SXP. Yeah, I figured I'd skip the light weight stuff and go right to the big boy toys. :p So far my first and only.

Second one is still up in the air. Either a 5.56 rifle (AR or Mini14) or a Beretta 92, and recently after seeing S&W's new releases for 2014, a new Model 66 "Combat Magnum" (love the way that sounds). Decisions, decisions.

Astra Model 600 in 9mm. I knew nothing about straight blowback pistols but I sure learned soon enough.

Around 7 years of age, I was given a Mossberg 385T 20 gauge from my grandpa. I wish I could find another one like it in great condition, as mine took a beating from me during my younger years.

Might be worth your while to check out some online auction sites, like gunbroker.

Here are a couple from grunbroker:

Keep an eye out...something will pop up sooner or later in my experience!

Baikal IJ-70 in 9mm Makarov. I traded it away, but luckily these threads come along regularly to remind me how much I regret that decision.
