It seems that all of us enjoy shooting for different reasons and our guns are used accordingly. I bought my first gun (a 12 gauge Browning BPS) because I wanted to hunt. So how about you...Why do you own a gun/guns?
This is a pretty open question because I shoot at club level clay sports and also 3-P air and smallbore shooting, so a better question might be why did you first buy a gun?

- Because putting holes in paper is a lot of fun.
- Because clay pigeons are fun to shoot.
- Because I can.
- Because sh*t happens.
- Because at 6'-0" and 155 pounds I don't have a great chance in a mugging.

The poll seems kind of silly considering that most folks I know have more than one gun for more than one reason.

I voted "other", simply because I didn't see anything resembling what my genuine response is: Nobody's business but mine.

I chose SD because that's the primary use of the guns I own. Also informal shooting and hunting. Also, I'm an American and I can if I wanna, darn it.

Yup, that sums it up for me too.....

You're list needs to be made up of check boxes, rather than option buttons... One selection just won't work.

It's my right, and responsibility, to be prepared to defend myself, my family, and my country if needed. It's not something I take lightly. I have 4 teenage daughters and a wife, and I am unwilling to stand by and watch some idiot hurt them. I owe it to those girls to come home each night, and will do whatever is necessary to make sure they have a father.

I enjoy shooting competitively, informally, plinking, and a little (mostly varmint) hunting. If it goes bang, I'll probably enjoy it. If it goes 'BOOM', I'll definitely enjoy it :)

On the 'other' line, I'm also a bit of a collector, and would own guns even if I couldn't shoot them (God forbid).

What about all of the above?

1.) Self defense.
2.) Recreational shooting.
3.) To exercise my constitutional right. (which is a diplomatic way of saying piss off the ANTIs.)

Actually, I don't hunt.

Hunting
self defense
protection from tyranny
recreation
engineering history collection
fire suppression
pest control
hole punch
signaling device

First, because shooting is fun. Which is why I bought the Mark III first and have the carry gun further down the list.

Second, because shooting is the only sport where a 5'3" woman who is naturally clumsy and double her desirable weight can compete on an even footing with others.

Third, because not all monsters live on Sesame Street.

I clicked all of them. Unfortunately, it doesn't allow options so the only one that registers is "self-defense"

All the reasons above. I hunt, target shoot, compete in shooting sports, and provide for my own defense and that of my family.

All the above! Plus I spent many years in the service protecting the Constitution and I am going to exorcise said rights.
