What's a good price for .22 ammo?

....sigh, ok I will admit, I pay 18 to 24 bucks per 50 for 22lr sometimes. Why? Cause accuracy matters to me and the pursuits I enjoy. But that's for the serious shooting.

Pre-panic, I could get Eley Sport for I think $4 per 50 and that was a pretty decent ammo for plinking. During the panic, while all the cheap and generally crap 22lr went off the shelves, the high-end stuff stayed around. Lapua, SK, sometimes Wolf, and almost always Eley Match was around.

Since you are new to 22lr shooting, I will tell you this, ammo is nearly EVERYTHING in accurate 22lr shooting. It will get you 90% of the way. A new shooter won't notice it, but as you build experience, you will quickly outshoot Remington's crap ammo; same for Winchester.

My advice is to savor shooting 22lr and buy a little bit better ammo. Yeah its fun to plink, but its even more fun putting 5 rounds into the same hole at 50 yards. Most centerfire guns would struggle at that.

Keep an eye on Champions Choice and Champion Shooter Suppy (they are different companies). They get target ammo before anyone usually.

The days of the $7 550 rd bulk pack are long gone which is why people are fussing about prices. I have been paying between 22 and 27 bucks for 500 or 550 rd packages of cheapo rounds, about 18-20 bucks for 300 rd CCI standard bulk package.

I guess I'm lucky that I'm not a very good marksman. I never notice the difference in 22LR ammo in regard to accuracy. But then again I shoot only occasionally and mostly to stay sufficiently proficient for self defense close distance shooting. If I can put 9 out of 10 single action handgun rounds in a 5 or 6 inch shot group at 10 yards I am happy with my shooting. And firing rapidly at 5 yards I am happy with the same shot group. So the only thing I lose with cheapo 22 ammo is having a few more duds than I might with more pricey ammo.

My favorite .22LR ammo is CCI Mini-Mag 40 grain. I was delighted to find it over the weekend at a gun show, for $10/100. I bought a thousand rounds, and very pleased to have it.

To me CCI Mini-Mag is the standard and I will pay up to 10 cents a round for that. Some of the stuff that is cheaper like the Remington Thunder Bolt I simply won't buy, YMMV. The plain old Amercan Eagle in the red box shoots fine but it is a solid lead round and not high velocity.

Anyway, it is hard to find .22 for less than 10 cents online unless you go to Walmart or catch it at a LGS, or gun show. Many online stores are selling .22 LR for 15 cents a round. I won't pay that.

Just went to Wallyworld and found American Eagle for 2.47 (bx of 50). Limit of three boxes per visit.

was at a gander mtn in Winchester Va 2 weeks ago they had winchester 100 round packs for 10.00 ea limit 5..

I am curious why wolf or one of the other foreign companies hasn't flooded the marker in the last 2 years.
