My oldest firearm is an old 22 bolt single shot, that is only bored for 22 short and long. Not long rifle.
I found it while cleaning out one side of great grandpas barn. I was 12 years old. So I asked about it, and heard from Grandad that he remembers buying it in 1922, and thought it was lost forever. He took it from me and told me to get back to work.
At the end of a hard day of dragging things to the burn pile, Grandad gave me the rifle a box of steel wool and a small can of singer oil with specific instructions on how to clean up the rust. After two days of cleaning and oiling, it was down to the white. I took the rifle to Pats Gun shop that was just across the neighbors field, and it was reblued and the chamber and barrel pronounced safe for 22 short shells.
I have taken hundreds of rabbits with that rifle, I like it alot.
Not it is just sitting in the back of the safe.
Thanks for asking about our oldest guns.
You got me wanting to take it out again.
