Hi guys i'm looking to get my first deer rifle i'm looking at a 270win what do you think?

What rifles do you all deer hunt with?

I'm trying to keep it under $500.

Im not recoil sensitve.

I'll take any advise I can get.

I do not need info on scopes.

I will be hunting in woods and big feilds so I will be takeing shots any were from 20 to 350 yards.

What brands and modles are better then others?

Ricky

The 270 will serve you well for the ranges that you are talking about. Personally I use a Savage Model 111 on 30-06 and it's never let me down. Mine was a package gun with a Simmon's 3x-9x on it and I used that scope for about 5 years before it went haywire on me and I bought a Nikon Prostaff 3x-9x to raplace it.

A Remington 700 ADL in .270 was my first deer rifle. I think if you search the used racks you can find one in good condition for under your cap. Stock might be ugly and bluing worn but it will probably still be a good enough shooter for the first few seaons and by then the bug will get you and you will
doomed to a life of never having the right gun or accessories for hunting.

Good luck and be safe...

My go to deer rifle for years was a Remington 700 BDL 30-06. Great gun but I think new they are a little over your price range. You can find great used BDLs for a deal if you watch at the end of season.

Recently I have been carrying a Tikka T3 lite 270 Winchester that I love. The gun is very light (7# loaded including sling and scope) and very accurate.

Another favorite of mine (especially when I am hunting the bottoms) is a Remington 600 in 308 with a low power scope. Great gun.

not setting the world on fire with ballistic performance.....but my Marlin 336 with Remington Core Locs does the trick just fine at ~150 yds or less. We're talking white tails in thickly wooded areas here. No Mullies on the other side of the valley.

Personally, I mostly hunt with a Remington Model Seven in .308. But the .270 is an excellent deer round. Won't fit the Seven's short action, though. So I'd vote for a 700 BDL. In the last year I found a pristine second hand Remington 700 BDL in .30-06 that included a nice 3-9X Weaver scope for well under your $500 budget. I know you're not interested in scopes. My point is that you should be able find an excellent used gun well within your price range. And the Remington 700 BDL is a genuine classic.

Savage Model 99 , either in 300 Savage or in .308. You'll have to look around to find a good used one, but it will be well worth the effort. Use the 150 grain bullets in either caliber and you'll get the same results. Nothing carries better in the field than a Savage lever gun.

Remington 700 .270

My current deer rifles include, two Remingtons 700's, two Winchesters 94's, one Savage 1899, one Ruger 77/44, one NEF, one Krag, and one Marlin 1895.

But my all-time favorite is my Remington 700 BDL .270 Win.

In IN we can't have "real" rifles. DNR did make PCR's available this year. For now it is a H&R Handi S&W500. I got a deer on opening day. 1 shot and back to the safe it went. Sure does beat lugging a SG or ML around.

Mine is a CAR-15 in .300 whisper loaded with 125gr V-Max at 2300fps. Light, fast handing, short enough that you can shoulder and point it in the thickest **** the UP has to offer. Farthest deer I've shot was just over 100yds.

I have a Rem. model 740 woodsmaster in 30-06. Accurate, small and luggable.
Good gun! and you can get them for $300 used

got a few...but my go to gun is a remington 7600 pump 30-06. it does everything i could ever ask of it, but its not exactly beautiful anymore. shoots about 1.5-1.75 moa w/ 180gr remington coreloks, which is plenty for what i need it to do. its basically a remington 870 action reworked to accept rifle caliber rounds. ive used it with open sights and w/ a low end variable, and it is a quick handling rifle. u should be able to pick up a used one for under 500, and have some money left over for ammo.

I don't know how much prices have risen since last June but while searching for my son-in-law's graduation gift(police academy) at our local Wally-World,I found a new Remington 700(?) matte blue/synthetic stock in .270Winchester for $389.00. I wasn't interested as I was looking for Savage in 7mm Rem.mag(found it w/accu-trigger for $369.00. These guns were on clearance so likely not so reasonable now.

I carry a Remmy 7600 in .270. It'll shoot moa with handloads. Good gun, very reliable, accurate, very quick recycles for fast followup shots, detachable box mag for easy reloading. I carry 2 spare mags in my pocket and can get 4 more rounds into play in no time.

Winchester Model 70 feahterweight in 270. Beautiful gun and it is very lightweight and fast handeling. Probably a bit above your price range though.
