What's your favorite .40?

1BLINDREF and MUDDFLAP, how are those P229s working out for you? I hear a lot of great things and they look like sweet pistols. I imagine that they are a bit more stable under recoil with that metal frame than my USPc is.

I have no doubt that CZ's and HK's in .40 are great pistols. I just don't have any experience with them in that caliber. My P226 .40 is a wonder to shoot. Forget all this nonsense about muzzle climb and high bore axis. The P226 snaps back on target almost by itself. Just as fast, for me, as my G22 (.40) and a ton more comfortable to shoot.

Out of all the guns I've fired in .40 (which isn't many!)

P239 SAS, Beretta 96, USP, Glock 23

I haven't shot many..only have 2. The $325 CZ40P worked out so well for me that I am not interested in any other 40 caliber handgun. It has filled that role for me with complete satisfaction. Finding extra mags though..has been a challenge.

I currently have two forty's, and XD and a Taurus Mil-Pro. They are both very nice, but if I could only keep one, it would be the XD for sure. This thing is rock solid, no failures in 2000 rounds, very accurate, eats all my reloads, and is very ergonomic for. The XD is my favorite.:D

I love my P229. I worried about all the recoil issues I read about, but it is no problem at all. It fits me well enough that I got another in 9mm. I like the older ones, without the rail.

my evolution in .40 caliber favorites

I have two, for very different uses. For CCW, I love my Steyr m40-a1. I have big bear sized hands, and yet it fits. I wear t-shirts mostly, yet I can hide it every day. Sometimes, though, I don't want to mess it up, Hunting, fishing, camping, etc. On those days, I grab my big gun, a Hi-point JCP. Looks like it's made by Black and Decker, weighs 48 oz+ when loaded, and goes boom every time. This one looks proportionate in my aforementioned bear hands, whereas the Steyr looks like a Kel-Tec.:neener:

I own or have fired the following in .40 S&W (I'm very fond of the caliber btw).

Taurus Millennium Pro PT-140
Springfield XD-40 (Service Model)
Springfield XD-40 (Compact Model)
Glock G22
Glock G27
Smith and Wesson 410
SIG P229

It was a close run with the XD-40 (Service Model) just edging out the Glocks...right up until I got the SIG P229. Now it's just not even a contest.

The SIG P229 tames the "snap" of the .40 S&W round better than anything else I've shot, period! It was so tame that at first I thought the range loads I was shooting were downloaded or something but I switched over to my usual SD loads and it STILL felt really tame and the accuracy was astounding!

While I'd love to try even more .40 chambered guns, sometimes you just know when you've found the right one. For me that is SIG.

SIG P-226 is, in my opinion, the perfect platform for .40 S&W.
I also like the 229, but lately feel the Beretta 96 has been rather underrated in this caliber as well. And the H&K USP-40 is butt-ugly and not real ergonomic, but one incredibly reliable pistol ...

For carry, Kahr PM40, its why I have any .40S&W guns.

For the range, Beretta Steel-1
