I know everyone has different situations that affects how they must store their guns, like weather or not they have kids or irresponsible roommates. I'm wondering how the average person here stores their guns.

I'll go first. Here are my guns:

I keep the 357 magnum loaded at my working desk where I spend most of my day.
I keep the Springfield XD loaded right next to my bed where I can reach it while laying.
I keep the AR and the shotgun unloaded in my closet with magazines at the ready.

Yes I realize many of you don't want where you guns are stored to be public knowledge and that is perfectly understandable.

Just a friendly moderator note...

If you don't wish to disclose the location of your firearms, just move along to the next thread. We really don't need 20 oh-so-clever replies of "Nunya!"

Thanks.

Hi Derk. Good advice Jorg...

I keep my carry gun with me, pretty much at all times even at home. I know, I guess under the new standards that makes me a mall ninja, so be it... then my carry gun goes into my nightstand when I go to bed.

As far as my other guns... I wish I had better but I do not. I have a display where my commie collection lives and a rifle rack for the rest. The pistols I keep at my reloading/gun care station on peg board behind the bench.

All my guns but the 12ga Pardner Protector are in the safe. The PP spends it's time above the door casing on the inside of the closet locked and loaded.

My Glock is on my pants' waistband in its Serpa holster, ready to start the day.

Everything else is pretty much "wherever it got set last." My AR and Witness are on the table I cleaned them on yesterday, my Mosin is leaning in a corner in the living room, my 10/22 is in the rifle case from the last time it got cleaned and put away (It hasn't seen the range in even longer than I have) and my Neos is in my range box. Oh, and my 995 is still by the front door, to remind me that it needs to go back to Hi-Point for repairs.

I live by the "set it where it gets set, don't worry about it" rule. It's just my fiancee and I (plus three cats and a dog) and we have no visitors aside from the landlord who pretty much does the "I see nothing" tunnelvision when he walks through for maintenance.

If someone breaks in when I'm gone, I'm just as screwed whether or not they're in a safe or sitting mostly unseen in corners. Then again, we rarely lock the door, either.

P07 loaded just under the mattress. All others in cases in bedroom closet, except chopped SKS folder that has a loaded clip and is not in a case. RIA 1911 in case in dresser with my socks. I just bought a new house in VA, and hope to build a hidey hole or get a safe.

I keep a Rem 870 with pistol grip by my bed. I have another 870 in my living room semi hidden. These are my main two home protection devices. My carry gun goes on my nightstand at night (I would still use the 870 if needed for defense at home). There is just something magical about the chink- chink a pump shotgun makes that seems to carry a message in universal language.

Now for my toys. I have a .36 Bedford County rifle mounted above the TV in the living room. My .62 Hawkens flinter is mounted above my computer desk. I still have the first BP rifle I made in the closet, and pull it out every now and then to laugh at the poor job I did on it. My Smith & Wesson 30-06 bolt action and Marlin 30-30 keep it company.

Why do people lock thier guns in safes? Is it:
1. To keep thier guns safe from criminals?
2. To keep the criminals safe from your guns?

How about 3, 4, or 5?
3. To keep them out of the hands of people who shouldn't be touching them if they aren't under your direct control
4. To provide at least some protection in the event of a fire.
5. To have a central location to store them.

Because the can afford a safe. I wish I could, and when the day comes I can or I see a great deal I would get one. Mainly to protect from the elements and theft.

To keep their guns away from their kids and vice versa.

All my kids are old enough to handle guns but I have four grandkids who aren't.

I carry a pistol or revolver at all times because I am a firm believer in the best home defense gun being the one that's handy when you need it. Generally my choice of carry weapon depends on what I am wearing. Today's fashion accessory is a Walther PK380 First Edition.

Most of the other guns and ammunition are locked away. I say "most" because we do have one or two surprises for uninvited guests.

I kept mine in a safe until I lost them all in a tragic boating accident.

I wanted to get that one out of the way before someone else posted it :).

Just my .02,
LeonCarr

Mine with the exception of a pump Mossberg is kept in my gun safe and if you lived in the neighborhood I live in that has unfortunately now become a Barrio with a huge population of guests from south of our border you would more than understand it's to keep theiving rats away from them.
Welcome to the new America.

Most are in the safe.
The 5" GP-100 & the AK stay by the bed. That's going to change before too long. My first born is coming up on 5 months, so I'll be adding a GunVault or similar to the nightstand at some point.

I guess your right. That's what I get for living in the sticks of Tennessee. It's getting so bad here though, that I can't keep my shotguns in my pick-up rack anymore. We are getting our share of the "visitors" too.

The only time that a gun is safe, is when it is within my reach... Several guns hidden in each room of the house.. (No kids around).. 870 by my bed and a Glock with a Crimson Trace Grip on the Nightstand...

What guns...I lost them overboard in a large lake in deep water. When I had guns in my house it still would be a secret where I kept them. as Jorg said..."Nunya"...

In my right hand at all times, primed to kill in the name of justice. I do everything else with my left hand.

Only kidding, my M&P40 is kept in Condition 0 (or Condition 1 if you count the trigger-activated safeties) next to my bed. If we have company over, then it gets locked away in a hidden location (not going to disclose) that is still fairly readily accessible in case of emergency. I suppose if and when there are children in the house, I'll have to lock it up full-time, but it'll still be next to my bed. The next order of business is to find some "friends" for my gun. ;)
