Where do you keep your guns?

I keep all my handguns locked up in a safe, except my personal defense weapon, to keep the kids from unathorized handling. Especially when mom and dad aren't home. I guess it also keeps them from being stolen unless they take the whole safe. :)

I have a rifle that I keep hidden away, but not in the "ready to fire" condition. I'm down to one rifle at the moment but I hope to rectify that soon enough.

My CCW is always within an arm's reach except when in forbidden areas, and even then its usually not so far away I can't get to it.

Why?? The only part that made sense was "Nunya". Why would you want to advertize to the OP where you keep your guns, pray-tell...

Why do people lock thier guns in safes? Is it:
1. To keep thier guns safe from criminals?
2. To keep the criminals safe from your guns?

Sadly only the first applies which is why our self-defence laws suck.

I think the better question is why would you want to post snarky answer that added nothing to the conversation instead of letting folks who want to talk about it talk about. :)

A safe.

It's irresponsable (IMHO) not to. Buy a gun safe (RSC - Residential Security Container) of some size and quality....Now.

A cheap Sentry from Wally world is a good choice for folks on a budget. Reasonably thick walls, 3/16 door. It will keep the kids and honest folks from doing dumb stuff with your firearms. It is no great deterent for a determined burglar, and offers only a modicum of fire protection, but it will probably save the guns from a smash and grab petty thief. Buy a good, heavy, large, quality safe when you can, but get something in the time being.

My first "safe" was good for young kids (and dumb crooks), but that was enough at the time. As I was able, and the firearms grew to around 4K's worth (The Benchrest rifle was the straw that broke the camels back), I saved and bought a nice enough gun safe that it fit my needs for many years.

Get a safe. :)

Out of the safe? The burglars and and crooks of the world can keep guessing. ;)

PM me and I will give you an address to send the money order to, or better yet have the safe of your choice sent to me.

Jobbox is a great idea cosmoline

That's funny, I don't care who you are. :D

For less than the price of a nice gun you can protect the ones you have reasonably well.

Pretty much everything's in my cabinet. I have my only shotgun, a stoeger coach gun, under my bed with two 00 buckshot shells loaded, 4 more on the stock with two slugs (cause I can't think of where else would be a good place to keep it...). M&P45 in my nightstand drawer, New S&W 686P loaded in my wife's nightstand.

Used to keep my M1 Carbine with bayonet under my bed, but felt the shotgun was more practical.

I keep my shortened Mossy 12ga in a rack I made under my side of the bed, loaded, chamber empty, ready to go. I just moved my 336 to a location above the entertainment center in the living room, easy access for meeting any disturbance at the front door and back door. It's a small living room, I can sit in the corner of our "L" shaped couch and defend front and back door. I keep a bolt action 22lr hidden in the corner of the bedroom on my side of the bed ready to go for whatever reason. There's my Browning Buckmark at hand for varmints of any variety. And my CC P11 is in my jacket pocket sitting on the couch ready to go.

Four rifles in gun rack. One rifle above bar. One shotgun in BR. One revolver in BR. One pistol in closet. One pistol in truck. One revolver in car. One pistol on hip. One pistol with wife. Unfortunately, no safe. But have a chain/padlock arrangement for when we're gone.

i live way out in the country, closest neighbor is 1.6 miles away. i keep a loaded pistol in every room/closet except bathrooms. also have an 870 leaning within easy reach of my bed. also have an extensive alarm system with cameras, etc. security systems was to placate the wife when i am out of state hunting. actually life is quite safe where i live, but "strange" cars/trucks come by my home every now and then.

Here goes:

I keep a 686P 3" fully loaded and arm's reach from wherever I am which is usually
either den or office.

A mossberg 500 (mag full / chamber empty) lives under the bed in the master BR.

I keep another 20 gauge behind the office door covered with a jacket.

Lastly there is a Colt detective special hidden but accessible in the main
bath room.

One in my pocket
at least one in my truck
one hidden on my motorcycle
one in the nightstand
the rest are generally in the gun racks hanging on the walls

Handgun in the living room, garage, one on mom and dad's side of the bed, Mossberg 500 in the 'office' and my SIG556 within a few seconds of the bed. I keep all of the 22's unloaded. Not out of the thought that they won't do anything to goblins, but my kids know how to use all of those.

As far as safes, I don't really have any faith in a safe to stop anyone. Turns out, I learned how to pick locks on Dad's gun cabinet (I know, it isn't a safe). Locks only keep honest people honest, and I think safes just kind of call out that you have some valuable stuff all in one nice place. Turns out, if I was going to make a real smash and grab on a house that I knew contained a lot of guns, I would do the following:

Scout house for about a week to get a good idea of times they (and close/nosy neighbors) would be out of the house. Cut phone lines, kill power, and chainsaw my way through the walls to the safe. 4 to 5 man team to haul safe out, with a driver on a cell phone.

I ask any of you to tell me how your safe can beat that. I have insurance to cover the guns (rider on my policy). I don't see a whole lot of purpose to high dollar safes. And any time that people talk about how it is irresponsible not to have one, I think to myself that there is no way to beat a determined criminal other than to shoot them. All safes do is slow them down, and a serious professional criminal is nothing to shake a stick at. Do most of us need to worry about serious criminals? Not likely, unless you have a SIGNIFICANT collection. Turns out, there are easier ways to get guns. Also, most petty criminals <should> know that any crime involving a gun takes them from petty crap to felony.

A no joke vault now... that would work.

And the above post reminded me that I hadn't had my monthly gun safety training with the family. That is now complete, and I can rest in the fact that I know the condition of every firearm in the house and that the children can't cycle the action on any of the guns.

The prize for cycling the action on any of the guns was that they would get to shoot that gun tomorrow. My kids like shooting, and aren't too bad at it. Lol, the first time I told them that, I told my oldest daughter I would buy her a pony if she could do it. And for the first time, she actually budged the spring on my G21 tonight.

In in my gun room...

:what: Very jealous...

My storage solution is wherever I can find the space :) Need to build a cabinet for the rifles... Select handguns are kept in convenient locations and I've got a stripper clip of 7.62x39 ready if things get really freaky.

It's just me, the g/f and pets so no small hands to find things and she grew up with guns in the house (she converted me, wasn't too hard)

I have my CZ-75b loaded and on my person. The short barrel mossberg is next to the bed, loaded. The rest are locked up until I go to the range,hunting,etc..

Mine are kept in my Stack-On locker that's next to the bed locked when the GF and I aren't home. I don't have CCW and work on a Military base, so not much in the way of good reason to have one according to the Sheriff. But when I'm home alone I take my pick of my flavor of the day to keep with me at all times.

I say when I'm alone because she thinks I'm a nutjob if I have one under the couch where I'm watching TV or on the laptop. I'm in the market for a new rifle and most likely next a bigger safe. The locker only holds 8 rifles and however many handguns I can fit on the tiny top shelf, which in all practicality is 3 max.

Seen a safe at Costco for $500 and one at Sams Club for $700. Similar size but different brands, interiors, and modular designs.
Now if I could only find an employee to open them since that bonehead kid got locked in one and ruined my shopping trips :cuss:

My thought on a safe are (a) it gives our local fire department time to cool things before the fireworks, and (b) if a crook wants em that bad he is gonna have some pretty banged up guns cause my safe isn't a 3 or 4 man safe...:neener:
