I'm a lucky guy too. Shoot my .22s at targets off the back deck. Starlings off the front porch in the yard and sporting clays or skeet with my little setup in the side yard over the field. When I feel like a taking a few hours away from life I will go to a range with some of my friends but not too often. The only thing I really can't do is shoot anything hotter than my .22 mag. Neighbors are just a little too close for safety but they all shoot too. In the summer I don't even need an alarm clock because the old guy who lives next door is always out shooting birds out of his tree at 5 am with his old M12 12ga.:D

I shoot at an abandonded airstrip on state forest land sandwiched between private forest land. It is about 45 minutes to an hour away depending on how fast I want to drive. About 400yds x 250 yds. It usually empty in the mornings so if I go, it is at sunup. Nothing like having a cup of coffee and blasting clay targets with the Mosin at 200yds.
Someone was nice enough to leave a 4x4 chunk of cement about 3 ft tall at the back of the place for long range shooting. Either 250 or 350 yds or so depending on where you put the target.
Makes living in this god-forsaken lousy armpit-of-a-town almost bearable.

I shoot at ranges 90% of the time.
Ventura Public shooting range almost every Wed for pistols.
Piru Shooting range for long guns.
The only non range place I go to is Cherry Creek evey once in a while. Locals will no where I mean.

My folks live on some land in a very rural area. We've had a range there since before I was born. Just an hour away...and dinner when I'm through. Can't beat it! I should mine the area for lead...no telling how much is in there. I am going to join a club soon. Fifteen min. drive.
Mark.

I use an indoor range fequently for pistol work. It's about 4 miles from home and my membership lets me shoot free on Tuesday and Wednesday. I don't take rifles there because a) it's only 25 yards and b) I can't shoot Wolf so my Mosin and AK can't be there.

The outdoor range is only open 3 or 4 days a week. Hours suck and twice now I've made the 30 minute drive to find that they were closed. Once it was "deer season sighting day" and you could only do 1-2 shots with a big-bore rifle so my pistol work was out of the question. Sucked too because I had brought a new-shooter with me. Closed last Sunday for a meet and closed this Sunday for "cleanup" day. Agh, I had a new shooter with me today too and got all the way there (a 30 minute drive) to find out it's closed. I need to check the schedule more. Sometimes the place really irks me. Almost nobody actually does any pistol or rifle work there, most of the guys just show up to drink and shoot skeet.

I used to shoot on private land sometimes, but one buddy's parents moved and sold their house. The other is in Iraq right now. My own parents have built so much stuff onto the land (about 10 acres of barns and greenhouses IIRC) that there really isn't any room to shoot there anymore. I did do some pistol work in the backyards though to check for functionality a few months back, shooting downhill into a pond.

I'm looking at another range now that's open 9am to dark, 7 days a week. Let yourself in kinda thing. Seems cool but I declined a chance to check it out today take a young lady shooting -- which was for naught as the range was closed. Bah.

I checked "Go to the range" but it's a private one. The company I work for let the employees build a range on their property. They donated the space and materials, employees did the labor and keep the place clean.

I shoot quite a bit on our family farm that has a large, heavily wooded site along the Missouri River.

My favorite place, however, is a high ditch bank along a drainage ditch. It is public property, surrounded by farmlands. Access is only along a minimum maintenance road that dead ends at the drainage ditch bank. No vehicular access other than the one road.

No farm houses or other structures with two miles of the place. Very isolated and a safe place to shoot. You can pick your own place to put up your target stand, from 10 to 1500 yards. Only drawback is that you have to pace off the distance every time you want to put up your targets.

I shoot either at the farm I live on (I rent), my wife's folks farm, or my boss's farm. Did I mention I live in farm country?:D I also hunt the same places.
I like when my sister, who lives in the Twin Cities, comes out with her family to shoot. I have a good friend who comes out about twice a year to shoot, too. I have invited several of my friends who live in the city to come out and shoot, but they never seem to find the time. I feel for you folks who have to go to a range to shoot, I grew up in St. Paul, so I know the deal. If you have a friend who has some land out in the country, (cabin, farm, etc.) casually mention your predicament [KISS voice]( and it's a big one!)[/KISS voice] maybe they'll invite you out to go shooting. ;)

Where do I shoot?

Where do I shoot?

I shoot at the target.

I mean, yes, I could shoot at something else, but I'd put very few rounds through the X-ring if I did.

My mother-in-law has a nice little range setup. So me and my father-in-law go out there quite a bit. (they are seperated) Other than that it is 35 minutes to the closest range.

Where do I shoot?

Well, I work at a Sportmans club. Basically a shotgun range, we have Trap,Skeet,5-Stand, and Sporting Clays. No rifle or pistol. It's a non-membership club. For rifle and pistol I'm a member at this club about 40 mins away where they have a 200 yard rifle range with a few tables to shoot from and markers at the 100,150,and 200. They also have a 25 yard outdoor pistol/22 area. I do also have this orchard area where I can shoot the usual varmints, and dove hunt. It's not my land but I know the owners and have been approved. I can test loads or whatever I need to do out there.

I go to Target masters or the reserve training center... NO rules for us out there. But I cant bring my friends out of the service.

Where to shoot in AZ?

Hello,

I am wondering where I can go out in the desert surrounding Tucson and shoot my guns? No gun ranges please.

Thanks

40 acres

40 acres and a long valley with a huge backstop wall. I've never shot anywhere else but my own property (been shooting less than a year).

I voted other as I live about 5 minutes from a range that I shot at sometimes but that is only paper targets but usually I go to my mother's which is about a 1/2 hour away and I can plink at anything that I bring with me or go down to the creek which runs across her property and plink at rocks in th creek bed. I also have a small range set up there and I can shoot at clays too. As I usually go to see her about once a week it's better that way then to go to the range that's so close. I use that range when I want to check out a new handload.
