I love my Glocks and I've shot and really like the FNX 45. A few weeks ago I picked up a used CZ 97B, and it's one of the, if not the sweetest shooting guns I own. Because of it's weight it's obviously not a carry gun, but for range and home defense use it's a fantastic choice.

I owned a 97B for a bit last year and with the factory wood grips I could not reach the trigger in DA mode. I've got small hands but I've had not problem with other large handguns like the Desert Eagle, Beretta 92, H&K Mk 23 or the Glock 21. Aftermarket aluminum grips made the trigger reach tolerable, and the pistol was accurate and pleasant to shoot, but I ended up selling it anyway.

I've owned Glocks of one type or another since 1991, and currently have a Gen 4 G21. I must say that as my handgun collection has grown over the years I find it harder to re-adapt to the Glock's grip angle when I pick it up. If you were using it constantly, though, this would not be an issue. Of the ones on your list I'd pick the Glock due to its simplicity, reliability, durability and low price.

I've not tried the FN so I can't comment on it...although it I've been tempted to pick one up.

Have you though about a USP45 or S&W M&P45? I really like the USP a lot, and I've got a .40 M&P that's super comfortable and easy to shoot well.

I've shot all of them. My hands were not comfortable on any of them, honestly (my glove size is a medium). If you have the chance to handle them before you buy, I would strongly recommend it.

I'm not voting either. I have a lot of guns and I like most of them.
However, I love that old 1911.

To be honest, the only reason I carry my FNX is because I live in a very rural place and I open carry some kind of gun every day, the FNX has higher capacity than the 1911 but when I lived in the city I carried my short barreled 1911 style pistol. The FNX is a great utilitarian style weapon, it's sort of like a big sledge hammer while the 1911 is a chipping hammer (massive vs. smaller). It's been completely reliable and very accurate for me and I crawl around in some pretty dirty places, not to mention the stray wood chips and twigs that come from cutting wood and clearing brush. But also the FNX's controls are so similar to the 1911 that it was an easy transition for me but I also got the newer advantage of a decocker and double action.

As for disassembly, the FNX breaks down easier than the 1911 in that there are only 4 large parts to clean and keep track of and you accomplish that by pulling the slide to the rear and turning a lever. If you want to clean the trigger parts simply spray them out with a liquid cleaner while they're still in the frame, unless you want tinker on the parts that's good enough and helps keep down any damage that non-professional might cause.

Yep, nothing better then a Gov't or Commander sized 1911 for fun with 45ACP. Since that's not one in your list I'd go with the Glock. Though I'd swap the 21 for a 30.

Wot no SIG? :(

I'll go with the Glock 21 then. It's shot well for me, gets full marks for reliability--a bit chunky, I'd say, but holds plenty of cartridges.

Seems like your preference for or against external safeties would eliminate half of the choices. Or will this be your only semi-automatic pistol?

I have a couple SA only and SA/DA's, but I recently bought a .45 which will serve as another HD option (in addition to my Glocks and AR's. My choice was a PPQ M2 .45

Great trigger (best striker trigger I've shot), good mag capacity (12 rounds), decent price ($600), metal sights (not night sights though). And a very nice, ergo friendly grip for a guy who (sadly) doesn't have "gorilla paws".

Used to have a G21 and it was just too big and blocky...I do own and shoot the 9MM and .40 Glocks but the G20/21 size is just too big, as is the FNX. Love the HK .45 but $1100...not happening, regardless if it's "worth it".

CZ is a decent gun, as are the Sig's, but I wanted a striker fire as that is what I'm most familiar with and have trained most with...and for HD in the wee hours, I want a familiar platform.

So...all your choices are proven guns as far as I know...just not for me. And that PPQ M2 .45...really does have a nice trigger, albeit my be a bit lighter than you are looking for.

And to be honest, I shoot the dang thing better than almost every gun and every Glock I own...

Good luck,

Either of the Glocks out of your choices, the one you can get for the least amount of money. They are probably the most reliable and durable tools on the list.

Of those I'd choose the FN, but I had one and sold it still have a P220 and a bunch of 1911s.

None of the above.

I'm with hillrad...XD45, in either service or compact size. I like them better than either the 1911s or Glock 45s I've owned.

SA/DA actions just don't set my Jello. Sorry.
