I have a female friend (not girlfriend) who's new to shooting and she's fallen in love with my old Model 10, which now owns. I was a bit reluctant to sell but she just smiled so much when she found something she could use well. I have a 64-3 on the way to me but, until it comes, I'm .38SPL-less. I feel kind of at a loss without a K-frame in the house.
It was only her 2nd time at the range and she was hitting an old motorcycle helmet on a stick from at least 50 feet away. Not too shabby stand-up revolver shooting for a total rookie. She tried some semi-autos but it got a wee bit wold & over-enthusiastic on the trigger so I steered her towards the S&W. She's found her comfort zone.
She's also pretty decent with a Marlin 60, which she pried loose from me as well. In the woods, she could feed herself now, if necessary.
I like taking rookies. I have never gone shooting with a newbie to have them dislike the experience. Everyone I've taken has had a ball and wants to go again. And, a bonus, this one didn't hesitate to buy her own gun and ammo! She's even joined this forum.
Note: I've noticed that newbies have taken a shine to certain guns in particular. They've liked my Makarov, Star MOD 30MI and, of course, the Model 10. If anyone's trying to find something for a new shooter, go K-frame. There should be at least one around somewhere to use for a try-out.
