Gawd have mercy on anyone kicking my door in or crawling in one of my windows when I'm home.

.38 Spcl
.357 Mag
.45 ACP (x2)
12 ga SxS
12 ga Pump
6.8 SPC II
.223 Rem

Those are just the ones "ready to go". :D

I keep a 30 round mag of M193 stuck in my Sig rifle just in case my 1911 doesn't cut it. I think of it as plan B.

Inside a house thats a lot of firepower. I prefer 5.56 because its smaller and doesn't recoil as much. At 10ft any rifle round out of a 16in barrel is going to do a lot of damage. I picked the Sig because its the most reliable semi auto rifle I have, 3k rounds with no problems.

.30 carbine, provided I first run a double stack 9mm and a really handy 12 gauge pump dry.

I voted .223 since that is closest to what my Saiga 5.45x39 shoots...ya gotta love a cartridge whose nickname is the "poison bullet"!

Depending on which I'd end up reaching for, or where I've set each gun on any given day:

5.56x45 from an AR-15 ... I like this choice because it is my work rifle, it has a light attached to it, and it is an easy long-gun to work with in the confines of a house

12 gauge slug from a Remington 870 ... I like this choice because I consider a properly loaded 12 gauge shotgun to be one of the most efficient fight-stoppers available. It does what it needs to do, and does it very well.

Alternatively, my .45 pistol sees some use on the nightstand. But, the rifle/shotgun would be my go-to gun, given a choice in a fight.

At this moment in time, .308 Winchester, but only if my 12 gauge pump guns are deemed inadequate for a specific and extraordinary situation. I wear a badge for a living, and my chief (PD) expects me to use handguns and shotguns, except in specified circumstances, and the rules apply to me off the clock as well as at work.

I have, in the past, kept a dept.-approved .223/5.56 AR15A2 Govt Carbine handy, and will probably use .223 again in the future, once things are sorted out.

My .40 caliber ruger carbine. I also have my sks on stand by...but I find the ruger to have better ergos and handling for the confined spaces of a house.

I only have one assault rifle. A .44 lever Henry. Lots of assault pistols though.

Another .30 Carbine. It's a GI model but been sporterized a long time ago. Currently iron sights, but I'm conjuring up a way to mount a red dot optic on it. My eyes are old and it won't shoot very far anyway.

no offense but your boss is wrong. Nobody has the right to tell you how to defend yourself except the Lord. Tell the department to stick their rules up their asses

Um, I have to put food on the table, and really, a shotgun will get me through the night in virtually all foreseeable scenarios in my current neighborhood, and where I currently patrol. Night fighting happens at VERY close range, and day or night, my neighborhood is heavily built-up and vegetated.

Like the president and the general, in the recent unpleasantness, one obeys his commanders, within reason, or quits. I will pick my battles.

Moreover, if I shoot a bad guy, I really do want the city and union attorneys to be on my side. If I use a outside-of-policy weapon under anything less than dire-necessity weapon-of-opportunity circumstances, my employers can turn against me, and I will be broke by the time I finish paying my own legal bills.

Let's please get back on topic. :)

Cosmoline, a local dealer has a couple of really nice Finnish Mosins. Sweet rifles; I am considering layaway. :)

i have two. One in 7.62x39 the other in 7.5x55 which is not on the poll. But the lin of defense is layered. If someone is in the house... Shotgun. No two ways about it.

7.62x54r, but i really rely on a makarov for HD, the nagant just happens to be what long gun i keep loaded because its the only one larger than a .22 i have with open sights, and i dont have a short enough shotgun to use as an HD gun.
