Which surplus rifle will be gone first? M39 or K31?

The title says it all!

I'm a college student and don't have enough funds to fuel this painfully expensive hobby. Guns and ammo are the main reason I now have a lot of credit card debt, and I told myself I will not buy another gun until after I graduate and pay down my debt :uhoh:. I won't have a good solid income for another 2 years or so, but I don't want to miss out on these two great milsurps.

How long do you think the supplies of the Finnish M39 Mosin Nagant and the K31 swiss will last? It seems like the K31 is already getting harder and harder to find....do you think any of these will still be easily available in 2-3 years?
It seems like these some of the best deals in military surplus, and I don't want to miss-out on them!

Get a K31 now and as much ammo as you can!The price will go higher and higher!I don't think the price of the M39's will change much because there is no reason for it to change.A m39 is what it is and a k31 is what it is,invest in the K31 now!

K31 or M39

MB -

They will be there when you get out. Focus on school and getting
that credit card debt down. Credit card fees will beat down any
"savings" you could make by buying now.

It's sounds like you've already got some guns to shoot. Save these two
for when you get out of college and celebrate your success with
a K31 and an M39, and get you some real nice ones to boot.

There are enough K31's and M39's in country to keep collectors
supplied. Neither of these rifles is a "rarity". They are nice collectible
shooters. Shooters buy and sell both of these rifles and will
continue to do so for a long time. For example, Swedish mausers
have been disseminated through the surplus lines for quite a while.
Yet they are still sold and bought on the collector market every day
for very reasonable prices, after taking inflation into account, versus
their surplus prices of years ago.

best, dxr

Never mind guns. Pay your college debts first. It's not like you don't have any guns already. After college when you're making money, then you buy guns.

Well considering finnish M39s are going for upwards of $400 right now and K31s are to be had at around $250-300, i'd say m39s are going extinct before K31s. Both are awesome guns, i really want a finnish mosin to shoot all my 54R but they're so much money. Sad thing is they used to be as much as russian mosins are now.

Wholesale Guns and Ammo is predicted to have a supply of M-39s that will last ten years at the current rate of sale. Get a K-31 after you pay off your debts.

Never ever buy a gun when you owe money. After the first one, guns are a luxury good.

thanks for the thoughts, everyone. a lot of different opinions, but I think I just needed to be reminded to keep things in perspective. I think doctorxring put things in perspective the best - credit card fees will far outweigh any savings I could have made on buying these guns early. I can deal with postponing these great rifles until after I graduate. thanks!

I agree with doctorxring. If you already have some guns and you're already in debt the only thing you should be spending money on is a Dave Ramsey book. Don't compromise your financial stability or your education to get another gun.

The rumor mill says that all the M39's that the Finnish gov't had in storage have been released onto the market. That's all there is and there ain't no more. The M39's haven't gone all the way through the pipeline yet, and dealers still have plenty of them in stock, like gunsnammo.com. But you can expect the prices to rise from here on in, as stock starts to dwindle. That said, you can still get a nice M39 for a little over $200 if you don't mind one with a little "character" showing. Here's one for $219:

On the other hand, I don't want to encourage anybody to go into debt for a milsurp. They'll be around for awhile. Two years is really not long at all.

I know zip about K31's.

Even if the price of K31s and M39s double over the next few years, you'll still come out ahead paying your debt down now and buying the guns later.

Trust me.

I've had a huge amount of debt (mostly from school) that I'm still working on.

Best thing you can do is avoid the trap of "gotta buy it now" which will drive you into debt. Best thing to do is save your money and educate yourself on the subject so you can recognize the really good deals when they come along.
