Who has a rifle for their primary HD weapon?

I have to say that my 12ga Mossberg is my primary HD gun, but I do have an AR-15 poodleshooter carbine as BUG to that. I figure it will be more helpful than the shottie if I'm ever attacked by hordes of mutant zombie ninja poodles. :neener:

Oh yea, I also have a 91/59 Mosin Nagant bolt action carbine ready with 180gr. softpoints in a bunch of stripper clips on the buttstock pouch. To be honest, I don't know what that's ready for, but it's a nice convenient, reliable package and I know I can be accurate with it so it's in the ready rack.

My primary is a Remington 870 Express Synthetic (12 gauge) with factory 18.5" barrel and factory extended mag, with a Surefire forearm light, 6-shell sidesaddle, GG&G single point mount and Wilderness Single Point sling.

The sling isn't really necessary for HD, but I bought it because I want to take a shotgun course sometime.

tee... well right now the only gun in the house is a SAR-1, so I guess I fit that description now. sure hope noone tries to break in, my gramma lives across the street... :uhoh:

:)

I'm partial to my Mossberg 500 w/ Remington Reduced Recoil slugs. That count? :)

Primary: Western Field 550 12ga or LW Commander. Whichever I get to first

Last resort: Yugo SKS. I don't have proper HD ammo for the SKS so it had better a baaaad situation.

Really really really last resort. Hungarian M44 Mosin-Nagant. I suppose it would be quite formidable with the bayonet extended.

Post 9/14 it will be. I dont want to upset the what is in the works. Right now a Benelli H20 Nova with mag extension, light, and butt cuff. My HK USP .40 and my gf's Glock.

I would keep a rifle loaded, but I live in a thin walled apartment for the time being, so I suspect that a stray round of anything heavier than a BB would pose a danger to the neighbors... of whats available, I worry about 9mm and .40 the least, so thats what I keep loaded.

.223 would be after those, and anything above that, forget it. I've heard all the stories about how poor a penetrator .223 is, but I simply don't buy it after seeing what it will go through compared to 9 and .40 gold dots. I've never tried any of the frangible stuff, but the 55gr FMJ and softpoint I have will go through a lot more of anything I've ever shot than the handgun rounds. My roommate keeps a 20ga with #3 buck.

If I lived in a brick house, I'd feel fine keeping a bushy carbine loaded for HD purposes.

I had an L1A1, but a buddy of mine decided he needed it more than me and offered me too much to pass on. Now I'll depend on my 1911 and my XD-9.

The 45gr JHP rounds are fragments before they leave the far side of a pop can filled with water. 55gr FMJ bullets, especially if they're not cannalured(sp?), would penetrate far more. You definately have to select your ammo for the purpose at hand.

For a while, my primary home defense longarm was a '94 Trapper in .45 Colt. (I was shotgunless)

At the moment, it's a 20" ex-po-po 870.

At some future date, Project AR will take the place of the 870.

Yep, pre 94 bushmaster dissapator. I have my shooting muffs draped over the carbine as well. Always does what I want it to, low penetration and more effective than any handgun I own. I have a Remington 870 police, 18" open choke barrel, full length tube and Surefire forend that loiters in the back of my safe, I just prefer rifles.

1911-A1 is up first, then the Maverick 88/Mossy, and then the Most Serious Artillery...

The US Rifle Cal .30 M-1 Popularly known as 'The Garand'

Also keep the SKS close by, and then the Romanian M-44 Mosin-Nagant. I figure if I get down to the Mosin-Nagant, I can always use the extended bayo to fend off 1 or 2 while loading in another stripper clips worth...

:D :D

870 is primary, backed up by whichever 1911 varient I pick up.

There is a loaded rifle at the ready, but if I've exhausted the ammo in the others, I figure I'll be dragging a few limbs if I'm even able to move to retrieve the rifle.

The winchester defender is the primary HD, unless i hear what sounds like a small army of gangbangers coming through the door, then the Arsenal SLR-101 gets some use.

The defender stays loaded, the AK has 2 full mags sitting near it. If i ever get to the bottom of the second mag i'd be supprised.

Agreed that ammo selection is key. I use 55 gr HP and I have a 21.5" barrel so they zip out good and pretty much detonate on impact with just about anything. I figure the magazine capacity, controllability, and short length of the gun ballence out the reduced penetration of the HPs. Plus, if the 1st 30 rounds in the mag don't stop them they'll be blind and deaf from the muzzle flash while I reload ;)
