Who has a rifle for their primary HD weapon?

Well, let's see....

Choice of 3 Rem 870s, 12s and 20
Choice of 2 Marlin 60s in .22lr
US Rifle Caliber 30, M1 chambered for the .30-06
Ruger P90 chambered in a .45

My primary HD weapon would be the one closest to me at the time I need it!

A little off the subject but...how long do loaded magazines last before they bite the dust?
Thats the one advantage of a pump or lever (or revovler for that matter) in self defense in my opinion...no magazine springs to worry about.

It would suck to have an old loaded mag go bad on you when you needed it, but since I am not a gun owner yet, I have no idea how much of a problem this presents, if any.

oh, currently my dad has an unloaded .38 spl under lock and key with no ammunition in the house as his primary. Secondary is a 6-shot bolt-action .22 in the garage attic (you know, for those zombie hordes:D ).
Again, no ammunition in the house. Nor does he ever go shooting.

So if the drug-crazed nazis attack I can pistol whip them!:D

I read an article about 90 year old 1911 GI magazines being found loaded in a warehouse. Fired all 7 rounds, and locked the slide back just like it they were supposed to. pump action shotgun and lever action rifles have magazine springs, too, so even if magazine springs went bad, they would be disadvantaged as well, in fact more so than autoloaders because with an auto you just press the little button the the grip and put a new one in. With a lever or pump action it is much more complicated.

For a long time the ONLY HD weapon my dad kept around was his Marlin 39A .22.

That's what he had, so thats what he used.

Depending on how long I have, and where I am, and how many it sounds like, I'd either go for the Glock 34 in 9mm, or the red-dot equiped Rem 7400 in .30-06 loaded with 150gr Ballistic Silvertips.

If I need more than 3 10 round mags for the 7400, then I had better be dealing at ranges my AR-30 .338LM understands (Ie 300-1500+yds).

Yes.

My SMLE No.1 MKIII .303 Brit. My grandfathers and uncles used this make during the great war; this is the make I will always use.

Up till about a week ago, it was an AK... but then again, since my apartment walls don't seem to absorb sound ;) I don't think they'd take a .30cal bullet too well either. I recently bought a Mossberg 590 to use for HD.

My Taurus PT92AF 9mm is my main home defense gun, but if anything goes down I'm only using it to get my ass to my gun closet and snag my SAR2. I figure 5.45 will be a little less likely to penetrate enough to get at some neighbors vs my 7.62 rifles.

I do have a Remington 1100 12 gauge that I inherited not too long ago, but I haven't gotten around to shooting it, and it's setup for skeet/bird shooting with a monster long barrel. I need to get it "tacticalized" and get some range time with it, then it will become my main HD gun... Unfortunately I don't have the spare money to blow on said "tacticalization", lol...

I used to have a 1894 Marlin in 44 Mag as my HD gun. I lived in a rural area so I kept it full of 44 Mag 180 gr Silvertips(I think they were 180 grain). That gun was stolen, which sucks because I loved it. Oh well, now my HD is a Taurus 455 in 45acp and an Ithaca 37 12 gauge shotgun filled with #4 buck.
