Who has the >LEAST< respected name in guns?

I might have more Mossbergs in my household than any other brand...many of them are 40+ years old and have been shot MANY MANY MANY times.

Mossberg 640K Chuckster...very very accurate...very very old
Mossberg 500 12 guage...very old...many many times fired
Mossberg 5500 only about 23 years old, but I have fired it THOUSANDS of times.
Mossberg 500 20 guage....fired many many times
Mossberg Palomino .22 lever action...was my GREAT Granfather's (he's been dead for 30 years) very accurate
Mossberg 835...has killed at least 3 turkey, and hundreds of doves

Won't last and not for serious shooters my foot!

I've seen two mossbergs literallly fall apart from being shot. like pulled the trigger and parts started falling off the gun. theyre ok for people who dont shoot much but thats about it. the only reason mossberg got the millitary contract was because they were cheaper.

And Ive seen Kimbers fail to feed, eject and even stove pipe. Ive seen browning automatics fail to cycle. Ive seen ARs jam. Hell Ive seen a lot of things in my life.

I have for one never seen a mossberg with many parts to fall "off" of it. I guess if you had some crazy optics or something hanging off the outside of it.

Quote: Bill Ruger............. not that there is anything particularly wrong with his guns but he was a sell out to the gun banners.

i've heard this before. what's the story on that? thanx

Well... He only sold collapsible-stock Mini-14s to the cops, and didn't want to produce any big magazines for his rifles for the consumer market. He also agreed to make 10-round mags for his pistols, rather than fight all three branches of the federal government. Some call him a sellout because of it. He was a hunter, not a black rifle guy.

In fact, it wasn't until after he died that the company started making a 25-round mag for the 10/22 and all sorts of piston ARs.

I actually like some Rugers. My 10/22, while a cheap gun to make, is pretty fun, and every part can be replaced without being a gunsmith.

To the OP, seeing how Henry originally was bought by a shirt factory owner named Oliver Winchester and all, I would say the current Henry Repeating Arms is the company that hangs the most off its name with nothing to show for it. I have not, however, ever picked up a Henry in the store, let alone fired it. I know a lot of people are not happy about the name. I'm just glad there's a gun maker in downstate NY.

Lorcin-Davis-Jennings
Sounds like an anti gun female congresswoman doesn't it!!??:D
Agreed. Don't forget Raven Arms. They made some very cheap .25 autos that are junk too.

Basically, in firearms, you sort of do get what you pay for most of the time, but you still need to do your homework. But a general rule of thumb is that any new firearm that costs around $200 or less new is probably junk.

I handled a Hi-Point 9mm in the 90's. The slide was made of cast metal. Total junk. I've seen several with broken slides. I'd never buy that junk. If price is an issue, get a cheap Commie surplus pistol or a used Glock in my opinion.

What do people think of Charles Daly?

That company never made anything; much like Browning, they had others make them and badge them with their name. The OLDER CD's were made by the best in the business; the newer stuff was made to cheap price points in Turkey and elsewhere

remington, on the other hand, did not even submit their 870 to the military trials because they were afraid that if it didn't pass it would hurt their civilian sales. shows you how much faith they have in their own product...

respectful sources, please?

Remington lost me after the 700 series issues and the way they dealt with it. Watched a report that made me do further research. I thought that the report had to come from some an anti-gun group trying to slam the manufacturer. After doing a quick search on google I was more than just a little sickened.

Any company that knowlingly puts unsafe firearms into the hands of people, millitary and civillians alike, losses all of my firearm buying money.

Maybe not quite what you were thinking, but it certainly is the companies founders name...."Mossberg".
They have been around a very long time, and have never been able to break out of the "also ran" catergory, and in my opinion just have never manufactured a true high quality arm. Workable for the occaissional shooter, perhaps, but they have nothing to attract the experienced shooter.
You've got to be joking. Mossberg doesn't produce a quality firearm? The 500 series is one of the most used shotguns for hunting, home defense, and military use.

Kahr Arms, had one of the original Kahr PM40 handguns, put 1500 rounds through it, almost every magazine failure to return to battery or failure to extract and eject or failure to feed two or three times a magazine, then the magazines started falling apart. Sent back to Kahr three times and still not fixed, finally got rid of it at a big loss after being up front about the problems I had with it to the gun store and gunsmith I sold it to.

Kahr Arms, junk, but at least respectable expensive junk.

Im gonna go with Bryco, Davis, Jennings, Jimenez. For what you pay for those, you could get a new Hi Point or a get used old gun that would last forever, also be more reliable.

Bryco, Davis, Jennings, Jimenez, Lorcin

I love companies like Hi-Point and Keltec that make a reasonable quality weapon for those who want to exercise their second amendment rights but can't afford to spend a lot. The above made them as cheap as possible, sometimes they were just as dangerous to their owner as an attacker.

I cannot believe nobody has mentioned SCCY yet.

I mean, if ever there was a company that rang all the wrong bells.
Lousy copies of Kel-tec, shady VP shill advertising under false names on gun boards, seemingly fly-by-night operation, etc...

IIRC there was a small 25 Auto made by a company that went by the initials PSP for Precission Small Parts. It was made in my hometown of Charlottesville and I had never heard of them until a few years ago. For more than 20 years I knew of the name PSP but never knew what they made there.

Brady? Gore?? hehehehe Can't believe nobody said Brady yet...

Yea, I hear a lot about Bryco, Davis, Jennings, Jimenez, Lorcin. Also hear about Pheonix Arms, he's in the same family, but I own a little PA pistol. I think they broke the mold a bit, but most people still group them in the cheap junk gun category, and I respect that.

Iver Mossberg's products couldn't be much better for what they are.

The worst? Senor Taurus, si?!

Two letters....RG

As for Bill Ruger.......he's OK in my book . He started a company and fought lawyers in court for years and I guess he just got tired of fighting in his old age. If he hadn't started the company in the first place the gun world would have been alot worse off. One of my fav's is my Mark I, so I can't hold a grudge.

My opinion. I am not commenting on guns I havent owned, but the Mossberg 500 I owned was the flimsiest most unreliable firearm I ever owned, and in person, never met someone else who owned one who didnt get rid of it as soon as they could. The Chuckster .22 mags safety loved to push the bolt out of battery, and the magazines fed poorly (even when replaced). No, I havent shot their newest arms, although I did handle a factory prototype of a new slug gun a few years ago...and was not impressed. The posting asked for your opinion of what YOU thought was the most disrespected name, not what you thought of others opinions. Mossberg has allways been and at this time continues to be an "also ran" company, although the company is making attempts to move iit beyond that, although gimmicky toys like thier new "Chainsaw" shotgun wont help.

Daveboone,

You have to remember that you are on a gun forum - meaning that your opinions are open to comments from others. (Hopefully, with knowledge and lack of personal attack.)

I have seen MANY examples of quality-brand firearms that have experienced broken parts and needing repair. The difference between those firearms and the Jennings,Davis, etc. firearms is that they are not everyday occurrences. To place Mossberg in the same category, based on one or two examples, is just not logical. I can assure you that there are thousands of owners of Mossbergs that are very content with their guns. They surely won't win many awards for their looks, but neither would the Glocks.

Just courious, what brands of firearms do you own? (I personally favor SIG handguns, but do own a couple of Kel-tec pistols.)
