Why Academy doesnt carry 762x39?

Just wondering if anyone has noticed if Academy in their area carries 762x39 or not?

A local Academy just opened in my area. I have been a few times to browse, but have noticed everytime I go they have every load in the world minus 762x39.

I oder most my stuff for range/plinking. But it would be nice to walk in Academy over say wal-mart and find a larger selection in higher quality ammo(say hornady for example) for hunting or what not.

Everytime I ask I get the uh im too busy right now, or ill have to ask my supervisor. I even had one fella tell me "oh well thats not a sporting load", whatever.:banghead:

Mine does, when it is in stock. Most of the 7.62 X 39 I have squirreled away is Monarch stuff, which is the brand-name Academy sells, which as you likely know is Russian stuff.

I have bought it in the Round Rock store, and I saw some the other day in my local College Station store. It is kind of hit and miss.

The Round Rock store a couple of years ago messed up on an order and got way more 7.62x39 ammo than they thought they had ordered and was selling it for like $75 per 500rds. It was great, but short lived.

Just keep looking. Right now they have .223 Monarch for $3.99.

Ok well its nice to hear some stores actually carry it. I was starting to wonder.

Well maybe its just that they havent got in the groove yet as they just opened. Or Im just missing out and others are beating me to it.

I would guess this is it. I used to work at the much derided Dick's and even we carried 7.62x39. They may not have received all or their orders yet or they are still working out the kinks.

Yeah, all the one's in Houston I've been to have them. The only beef I have with them is if they don't have it, they won't get it for you! :banghead:

Probably for the same reason the local Dick's doesn't stock rifles in .308 (though you can special order one.... at full price).

I bought 6 thousand rounds of it in Nashville a couple of years back during the Thanksgiving sales.

Yeah, all the one's in Houston I've been to have them. The only beef I have with them is if they don't have it, they won't get it for you!

Ya I kinda got that feeling. If they stock it and just dont have it is kinda what I was asking several times. But the answers I get pretty much give me the idea they either dont know, or dont care to know.

Such is life, Ill keep an eye out for it and stop asking employees lol. Im betting from the replies they just havnt had it in stock. /crosses fingers.

I've seen it in the Selma and San Marcos stores fairly regularly. Monarch is just about the only brand, though.

Academy's in the DFW area normally stock ak/sks ammo in steel cased monarch (which I believe is prvi partian or something like that from serbia). I could be wrong on the factory.

Have not seen any brass ak/sks ammo at academy. you can find non magnetic brass surplus made in the 80s on stripper clips from yugoslavia (serbia plant) for indoor shooting.

Have never seen 762x39 at wal mart.

Where in Texas is your "area"....it is kinda large here.

There are three Academy's within a twenty minute drive of my home. All have consistently large supplies of 7.62x39......as should every Academy since it is one of their top selling calibers.

Way NE like 15 minutes from the TX/Ark/La borders lol. They just put the Academy in maybe 2 weeks ago or so.

I have been to an Academy out in Ft worth/Dallas area but couldnt stay long enough to look much...Im always in a hurry to get to Cabelas.

The Joplin, Mo store used to have cases of it on a table in the middle of the ammo aisle, along with shotgun shells and .223. It was mostly Monarch, but it was reasonable priced.

Try asking someone. If they give you with the "what is 7.62 x 39?" look, ask for the manager. Academy employee knowledge is very hit or miss, but they should be able to find a case that they didn't know they had, or at least be able to tell when they expect more.

ETA: Whoops, I missed the last part of the OP. I'd go straight to the manager then. If that doesn't do any better, looks like its time to give someone else money since they don't want it.

The Monarch at my local Academy is $5.69/20
It is behind the counter, you have to ask for it. If they don't have it, ask when they receive the ammo shipments, I was given days and times.
