Why are people so passionate about 1911's?

The 1911 fits my hand perfectly, carries well, and shoots well. I like the trigger and the feel.

I own/have owned Sig, Glock, Beretta, Kahr, and S&W autos, and have recently tried an XD. I've tried a few guns. I still come back to the 1911 at the end of the day.

You don't have to like what I carry, and I don't have to like what you carry. If I need help, I wouldn't care if you came to the rescue with a Raven Arms .22 dressed up like a 2 dollar whore, I'll just be glad for backup.;)

px15, you near Valdosta? I'm a little ways SW of there, across the state line.

Actually, the 1911 is the Chevy "265" of the handgun world... :D

I think it went something like: 265/283/302/327/350/400, then I lose track.

Best Wishes,

JP

I'm reminded of when I took my NRA introductory pistol course years ago. We qualified with a .22, but on the last night our instructor brought in the following which we all fired several rounds through in succession, to get the feel of different ergonomics, recoil, etc.:

.380 auto
.38 special
.357 magnum
9mm
.40 cal
.45 ACP
.44 magnum

Having fired several hundred rounds of .22 over the course of several nights, I was expecting major recoil and potential discomfort from the big calibers. To my surprise, the .45 felt best, and its become one of my favorite shooters since. :)

The Gospel :)

In the beginning there was shooting, and it was void and with out form, and John Moses Browning siad let there be .45ACP and there was the 1911,

Then the great JMB sent us his prophet, the Cooper to once again lead his people onto the paths of righteousness, and lo there was IPSC.

Then the shooters, alas went astray from the truth of the Cooper, and lo there was much sadness in the hearts of JMB and the Cooper, but now there may once more be rejoiceing for the IDPA has been delivered unto us.

Would you want to disappoint this man?

Easy....

My Sigs' and Rugers' are just dandy out of their boxes. My 1911's all have needed some sort of personal touch. Some people like to customize cars or bikes. Some people like to leave well enough alone. I like to look at any one of my 1911's and think....' that's a damn fine tool and I made it that way...' Meaning some of us like to tinker and the 1911 is the perfect platform for that.

Hey The Goose,
Well....did you ever shoot that ammo?!? I read five pages to see if you're a convert or not. Please get back to us. It's the least you can do after starting another 5 page 1911 thread. :neener:

Anyway, I just got my first 1911 recently, Springfield Mil Spec, it's flawless through the first 500 or so rounds. Everything else has been covered in this thread...several times.

Well, for me it's like the tag-team of God and Mr. Browning made the 1911 and my hand for each other. That, and the ease of customizing and repair--how many OTHER weapons are there that you can detail-strip using only its own parts and a single cartridge? The public-domain design and schematics help too, that way, if you know how to read a blueprint and work metal you can build your own from scratch. Just try that with a Block, err I mean Glock, Freudian slip, ladies and gentlemen...

I've tried assorted S&Ws and a Glock or two, but the 1911 just fits me best, both hand and personality.

In some cases the man makes the gun and in others the gun makes the man. In this case they go together hand in hand to make a great team.
