Why do you own guns?

This is what i was thinking...
I can think of a great way to integrate those two hobbies. It may degrade the value of your stamps a bit though.

I own guns because, first and foremost, I am an American.
I also hunt a lot when I have the time, and range time is a very healthy physical and mental recreational exercise. I also like to get out away from society and enjoy nature, and have had several run ins with large carnivorous animals, and a good firearm at hand is good insurance.

It's our right as Citizens and our duty as well in my hop. I took an oath 11-30-1979 and the 6 year's I was paid has long been over but I have not rescinded the oath ,I took it seriously then and seriously today.
If anyone doesn't like firearms or they are willing to be easy game for thieves and robbers unarmed victim's are the perfect prey for predators. In nature the sick and dumb just don't survive.
I love firearms myself and am privileged to live in a rural area with several acres of land. I have a range just outside the doors.
My wife gets upset about the brass going all over the living room and the noise bothers her too. Lol
Personally it's easier to pick up the spent case's if I shoot from the open door.
I spray for bugs often, have no spider's frogs,or lizards around the house and that keeps snakes away as well.
No bugs sends those critters to some other place for groceries lol

As a free citizen and head of my household it is my responsibility to protect what has been entrusted to me. This would include defense as well as hunting for game if the situation requires, as well as teaching my children how to shoot in order to pass on the skill.
Target shooting, as well as hunting can further develop marksmanship skills so they can be a noble pursuit as well.
Also, everyone is part of the unorganized militia, according to the founding fathers and my High School Civics teacher,

Like others, I own guns because I like them, and because I can.

I also own cameras and lenses, and enjoy both the taking of pictures, and marveling at the craftsmanship that went into SLR cameras from the past. Those old manual lenses optically are still just about as good as any new autofocus lenses, most are way better than the kit lens you get with a new DSLR, and totally wipe the floor with cellphone pictures. I own adapters to mount these lenses on modern cameras and enjoy the heck out of using them.

I have a good number of older guns that I look at the same way as the cameras.... they still shoot the same caliber ammo and work as well as the new polymer wonders, but there is so much more precise craft in their creation.

I own firearms because I find shooting to be relaxing. The focus and concentration it takes to place shots on the 'X' or as close as possible centers my mind, it is like meditation.
Secondary to this is my personal safety and collecting historically significant firearms give me as much pleasure as all those classic cars gives Jay Leno.

I didn't grow up with firearms. While I shot competitively in college, I didn't really get into gun ownership until my early 30s when I started hunting with my father-in-law. My wife gave me my first owned firearm: a Mossberg 500 combo that I still hunt with on occasion. I also got into handgunning through hunting; I lived in a "shotgun only" section of NY where handguns were also legal, so my first handgun was a T/C Contender with a couple of rifle-cartridge barrels. The hoops I had to jump through to get my handgun permit in NY got me interested in the whole handgun thing, and egged on by a friend, I attended a couple of Mas Ayoob's classes at Lethal Force Institute. That got me into concealed carry. Along the way I picked up .22s for practice, plinking, and informal target shooting. Then on to black rifles in the early days of the AWB. First love is still hunting, but I carry regularly and enjoy range outings.

At this stage of my life, I have the resources to play a bit more. Got into reloading a few years ago. I can afford to buy things to experiment with and sell the things that don't hold my attention. I've consolidated cartridges that I shoot and reload for, but have a recent interest in the .44 special (CA Bulldog, Ruger GP100 ... even a Taurus 441). So general "hobbying" is also in the mix. Glad to live in a country and a state where I can pursue all of these interests.

I own them because the Government doesn't want me to have them. That means it is good to own them.

You've got it backwards...you're trying to turn an answer into a question.

The answer is "So I can own guns" and this shouldn't be twisted into "Why do own guns?"

For example:

Why do I work? So I can make money to buy guns I can own.

Why do I have a car? So I can transport the guns that I own to and from the range.

Why do I go hunting? So I can shoot my dinner with the guns that I own.

Why does my wife make me a sammich? So I can eat and maintain my health and strength so I can properly care for the guns that I own.

Why do I have a holster? So I can carry the guns that I own without sticking them in my waistband and blowing my penis off.

Why do I buy ammunition? To feed the hungry guns that I own.

Why do I have untold thousands of rounds of ammunition and keep buying more? Because the guns that I own are very hungry.

Why do I buy soap? So I can wash my hands after cleaning the guns that I own.

Hey there, 308 Norma, welcome to THR. How do you like it, so far?
Just wait till they ask me "Why do you need a gun?".

Best post.

And because 10mm.

A couple of reasons for me, besides the obvious uses for hunting and self defense. I like the artistry, both mechanical and decorative, there is just something inherently good about a well machined piece of steel (or aluminum or scandium), plus some nice wood, maybe a little engraving.

I'll echo what others have said and say that anytime the term "registered firearms" is used to compare (U.S.) states, I have to seriously question if the author knows what they're talking about...

I probably fit into most categories, but probably align most with the Skills Builder and Protector categories.

I own guns for the same reason that it's difficult to golf without a set of clubs.

I like them. I like them for various reasons; but as to why I own them, it's because I like them.

Some old guys--Jefferson, Madison, Tench Coxe--all told me to :)
As FATHER'S and as Patriot's it's our DUTY...............I was traveling across the Desert , it was the crack of dawn, something about the desert skies at the crack of dawn they are simply beautiful, ...I was Smokin a Cigar the sun roof was open and just lovin the cool desert air........And that's when I saw it a giant billboard with a picture of a Aircraft Carrier on it . It was powering through choppy seas ..and it said ..." Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of all who would Threaten it." .....My eyes watered and my chest swelled with pride and I started cheering and yelling Yeah Baby !.... people driving by must have thought this old guy was a lunatic........" GOD BLESS THE USN "
And God Bless ...CapnMac for sharing the old guys with the new old guys ..
" Personally I think it will take , and it's time for.. Mad Dog Mattis and the Military to drain the Swamp and restore a constitutional government ".......".all enemies foreign and DOMESTIC."...................Nothin but Good Things....
