Why don't they make new Broomhandle Mausers?

I'd buy that 1932 Ford kit except that my name isn't Clyde and I don't know anyone named Bonnie.

Hey what was the gun maker that made the Bonnie and Clyde commerative weapons? Was it Charter Arms? Can't remember.

One said "Bonnie" on it and the other said "Clyde". Kind of a his and hers thing, I guess. But pretty weird to honor notorious murderers with guns, I think.

But it shows that some folks will commemorate anything with a weapon...so a broomhandle re-issue just might work! :) (Notice how I cleverly got back on topic? :) )

Was it Charter Arms?

Yup.

Has anyone else noted that Winchester shut down their New Haven plant and quit making Model 94's?
Because of cost?
Then they started importing them and marketing them at about twice the previous retail.
Isn't the the Winchester 1873 also an obsolete design?
Remember when Stoeger made the American Eagle Lugers?
The did not last long, but look at what they are selling for on the used market.

If anyone has the wherewithal to produce a modern C-96 I think it will be Umarex. It won't be an exact copy but it will give you the experience for a fraction of the cost of a minty example.

But for my money the Bergmann Bayard beats the Mauser in the looks contest:

Why don't we put this on hold for another couple of years until 3D printer technology has matured a bit; that may change things quite a bit. At least we may then have an easier time of getting replacement parts for the originals.

Cartridge on the .30 cal. Mauser was very similar to the Tokarev 7.62X25. The Soviets must have liked something about the Mauser. Also noteworthy was the fact that Winston Churchill carried the Mauser early in his military career. It may have saved his life.

The Interarms experiment with the Luger probably killed all future projects of putting old, collectible firearms into new production. Everyone told Interarms and Mauser it was a great idea, then no one bought one at the price they had to ask.

I imagine a new Broomhandle project would go just about the same way, except much, much worse.

Chinese troops during WW2 weren't particularly effective against the Japanese. However, what would really frighten the soldiers of Nippon was when the Chinese formed special assault groups armed with stocked broomhandle Mausers and short swords. These were said to be quite effective.

Why No New C96's?

...and because even if someone did make a repro, it "wouldn't be as nice as the orginal," "wouldn't be collectable," and "wouldn't work work a dang" (even though the originals were hardly worry-free. Just can't please the gunnies :D
