Why is Winchester so popular?

Some Winchesters were made in Japan however.

And are some of the best made leverguns ever produced.

I believe that Remington did just as much as Winchester in settling the West. I know that everybody thinks of Sharps when they think of the buffalo hunters but the Remington Rolling Block killed as many if not more than a Sharps. The buffalo hunters did as much if not more in getting the Native Americans onto their reservation than the Army did.

Is Winchester so popular? What are their sales compared to Remington, etc.

IMO - the shot gun won the west. Don't really care which flavor as most people back then just wanted something to hunt with and protect themselves.
