I am considering buying a Model 70 in 30-06. I will be building it up little by little as money allows. My qustion is this: will a standard Winchester 70 CRF action have enough strenght to support an 26", unfluted MTU barrel with a suppresor (can't get one right now, but I might later).

Thanks,

New Winchester Model 70...yes!

Answer to your questions... don't know for sure.

Sorry, not much help.

But, I do like the new Winchester Model 70's!

CDNN had some new model 70 actions for sale awhile back. Don't know if that would be of any interest or help.

Thought about buying one for a build of my own.

They do but they only sell .473 short actions and magnum short actions. I asked about a long action with a .473 bolt face and they said that they did not sell them.

P.B.W.,

Yes, no problem with any M70 supporting a long, heavy barrel. Here is a pic of my M70 with a 28" fluted MTU contoured Obermeyer. Make sure when your gunsmith beds the rifle, that he continues the bedding for about 2 inches up the barrel from the recoil lug.

I've got a model 70 XTR with a longer barrel, Leupold Scope in .338 WIN mag and it takes everything I put through it.
Course this is the magnum action, but I think these guns are very durable anyway.
