At the end of the day, he got a Chinese AK for a decent price, and it does what it's supposed to do when you pull the trigger. The way it looks doesn't affect its function, and it's not exactly a historic firearm. Very few AKs are. It's one of the most mass-produced rifles in the world, and only early or rare examples are really worth preserving as "safe queens" in museum quality.
I'd never do this to an SKS or AK of my own, but that's purely a matter of taste. If my girlfriend wanted to get an AR, AK, SKS, or any other rifle in pink with flowers on it, I wouldn't hesitate to order the Duracoat for it.
