Would an AR be your only rifle?

I built a 20" ar just for the purpose of being the one rifle. But then the avail. of 7.62x39 rang true so I stocked up on that with the corresponding arm. So now I would have to go that route. If the AR waa to be your only I would go 20".

Yes, because I'm not very accurate these days anyway. I could easily get by with an AR-15 with .223/5.56 and .458 SOCOM uppers plus a .22LR conversion kit. What more do most people "really" need?

Yeah...Hell Yeah.

I'm in Florida, and 'round these parts, I don't have to hunt large game in order to survive. We've got nice Supermarkets every mile or so, and even when hunting to survive becomes an absolute must, there is no game down here that requires a full power rifle cartridge. Most of the people I know down here that do hunt tell me that 50-100 yards is the realm of the Floridian hunt, and if you know anything about our terrain, this is a more than reasonable assertion.

The AR is very easy to operate, simple to clean and maintain, has parts and accessories available everywhere, is lightweight (so long as you didn't blindly load it down with crap), is very reliable, and ranges from accurate to "watch this" depending on how you've got it configured.

If you're one of those guys that really believes that ARs are not reliable, then I have to be suspicious that your experience revolves around poorly built ("parts is parts, I got this!") or improperly spec'd rifles/carbines ("I gots $600, what's the best AR for my money?"). If you're one of those guys who believes that the AR's operating system runs "too dirty" then I have to assume you don't know the first thing about HK pattern roller-delayed blowback rifles.

I'm in agreement with the assumption that the majority of folks here need a hunting rifle first and foremost, and that they live in remote areas where taking a long distance shot at an Elk is much more likely event than letting off a controlled sequence at some bad guys. Where I'm at, the reverse is true.

don't have any by my choice. would i if it was the only thing i could have? yes. would i if i had a choice? nope. i have 0 interest in them.

i have zero interest in adding an AR15 to my collection at all.. so how can it possibly be my only rifle if im never actually going to own one at all?.. now my AK.. thats a different story

No-never wanted an AR (any sort of upper) and will never buy one.

Quite frankly, it was never used by actual or movie heroes in WW2 movies/tv shows during the '60s.
Cage, Kirby, Little John, Sgt. Saunders never used them ("Combat"). Neither did the British Commonwealth or the Axis.

I now have a German WW2 Sauer 38H handgun (my first handgun) and would take a second such gun over any AR.

My choice of what I already own would be my Winchester Mdl 70 30-06, with it's Brown Precision fiberglass stock. Shoots all the standard loads plus home cast lead gas checked bullets for small game. I have a bunch of ARs that I rarely shoot any longer. I do use my 762x39 version for hogs just because I like how it takes them down, but the Mdl 70 would fulfill that need just as well or better.

I've owned numerous good quality AR's. Never keep them. For me, I would not.

Now, could that be my only rifle? Not in any forseeable future, but saying that, if that were somehow my only arm, I could do quite a bit with one. I don't want one, but they are fine carbines and those who do like them certainly have valid reasons.

I'd be comfortable with an AR as my only rifle if it came to that. As long as it had a fast twist 1/7 or 1/8 barrel to handle the heavy bullets it'd be capable of harvesting any game I'd use it for and as always they're superb defensive rifles.

John Wayne could and probably would...so, yes.

Yes, I have a few rifles, if I could only have one I would be able to do what I need with any of them, including my .223 AR. Fortunately I am not limited, but if I was I would not complain. As someone is here is fond of posting, it is not the arrow, it is the Indian.
