You get 1k to buy a firearm. What would be going home with you?

Considering the times, that would get a 10/22 and a brick of 22 lol.
The only reason I said that is because I don't have a .22 lr anything, shame on me, I know. Lol

Haha. My 10/22 was one of the last things I picked up. I thought, no matter what, 22lr would always be plentiful. Lol.

Perhaps a Ruger No. 1 in some exotic chambering? No, that's not a gun I'd really use, though I'd enjoying knowing that I own it.

Being purely practical these days, I'd go for a pocket .380, probably an LCP, and a polymer 9mm, probably a G19.

A Uberti 1885 low wall in 22 hornet, If I have enough left over a tang rear and a globe front sight.

Today...

The FN SCAR 17 costs more than $1,000, so I would save it.

Ruger 10/22, and spend the rest on .22

I got an extra 10/22 laying around. Mid/late 80's with less the 5k through it. I'll throw in 1025 rounds of CCI minimags and Blazers (500 minimags and 525 blazers).

The stock has a few dings in it so lets call it even at $800 :)

Haha thanks, but I'll pass

I've been wanting to build a custom long range rifle on a rem 700 action, but don't have one. So, I've been planning to pick up a sps in stainless in 7mm rem mag. I figure I'll shoot it for a bit and then gut it for the project. So, yea...I'd get an Rem 700 sps and good base and rings and some ammo.

Either an AR plus accessories, or a Taurus 24/7 ($430), Mossberg Maverick 88($200), another Mosin Nagant ($150), and the Archangel Stock with detachable mag ($200). Grrrr this really makes me want to go blow a grand. Lol

I have a CMP Garand in .308 on order for $995. I'll spend the $5 left over on an en bloc clip or two. :)

Though I've owned a rifle or two for nearly 50 years, I only got serious about building up a personal arsenal in 2006. At that time, I gave myself a budget of $1,500 to get started. That got me two handguns, a shotgun, and three rifles, the latter including a Tromix Saiga in .223 (which I would not part with for $1,500 today). I've added a couple of more since then, most recently a Ruger GSR, which was $900 NIB out the door at a gun show on December 30, 2012 (while everybody else was overpaying for scarce AR's).

I've easily spent more than twice whatever I've spent on firearms on the ammo to shoot with them. A $1,000 on a rifle or pistol, with no ammo, is just a blunt instrument.

Next week my answer will probably be different... But this week I'd pick up an XDS in 45, some more mags, and ammo ammo ammo.
