Your dream rifle?

I have always been utilitarian in my weapons tastes. Fancy, rare, tricked out and overly expensive has never done it for me.
When I first put eyeballs on the Ruger Gunsite Scout Rifle I saw my dream rifle....The more I read up on it the better it got. I eventually bumped into one locally, once I had it in hand, wow! was it good. I jumped on it, had to ultimately sell my .40 CX4 Storm to cover the GSR, but it was worth the sacrifice.

For several years now I have wanted a 10mm carbine of some sort. I was hoping that Glock would make one for Police use. But it never came to be (or there 9mm or 40S&W one they said was on the drawing board). For a hot second I though maybe Ruger was going to do it when they came out with the 40PC (I should have just grabed one of them) but now even they have discontinued that line.

So a 10mm Carbine of some sort that would take either a standard capacity Glock 20 mag or a mag of 15 to 20 rounds.

A 5 pound Semi-auto no longer than 36" with the power of a 50 BMG and the recoil of a 22lr that will shoot 1" groups at 1000 yards.

What is your "dream rifle"? In other words, what rifle would you build/buy if money was no object.

M-60E3 if the old surplus 7.62 NATO weren't dried up.

Realistically, I'd settle for a M-249 SAW or an authentic Thompson machine gun.

Ed Brown Damara in .280 AI with a Schmidt and Bender on top. Prolly never happen because if I did have $6k+ to spend on a rifle, I prolly couldn't bring myself to do it.

four dream rifles sitting in the safe as I type. If it isn't my dream rifle I won't buy it. Every rifle I own somehow caught my interest or I would never have bought it.

One is a work in progress as I've decided I want to change the stock for an HS Precision.

A nice stalking rifle, from Ferlach, modest engaving, set triggers, claw mounts, Schmidt and Bender glass, in say 7X65R.

An M14 pattern "Bush" rifle with all USGI parts, no forward rail, 18" barrel, wood stock, and select-fire capability.

And three or four more to sit in the safe.

A double rifle in 357 mag scaled to fit the size of the cartridge. Ivory bead front sight and tang rear with folding blade sights in the rib for 50 and 100 yards. A 410 frame should be just about right with 18" barrels.

It's not quite a rifle, but this shotgun came to mind.

A Tommy gun would be nice too.

The nicest engraved 1911 you can imagine.

If you read enough posts, you'll find guys that can already do that.....

blindfolded, at night, over their shoulder, in a hurricane....:neener:

Dream? This one - Holland and Holland Royal Double Rifle....chambered for a cartridge that I can use, maybe .30-06, maybe .375 Flanged.

AR 10. Sorry, don't own one yet, so I can't get all technical... But it would be old school.
Much more likely: I still want a marlin 45 LC and a Marlin 45-70: both newer so they can handle HP rounds.
But today I finally get my 1911: what's the theme of my current gun desires??? ;)

My RRA LAR-6 in 6.8spc is my dream rifle. I feel I could do anything with this rifle and the size is right too.

With cost no object, I'd be getting something along the lines of an H&H Royal double ejector rifle, sighted and stocked to suit myself (probably spend a couple of days in London for a "fitting") and chambered for .475 No. 2.

A little load development, and then it's off to Africa for Jumbo - the only proper test for that type of rifle. ;)

Eddystone 1917 receiver built into a 375 H&H . . .
Eddystone 1917s are a little controversial regarding the heat treating - the one P.O. Ackley chose for overload testing in his book failed in a spectacular manner. Most custom rifles are built on Winchester or Remington actions - since the Winchesters have a recess milled in back that doesn't look very good, many prefer Remington actions. (The irony isn't lost on me, since we all know who managed the Eddystone plant.)

I have to disagree with Hank when speaking of dangerous game big bore customs. I have seldom seen one done on a M-700. The vast majority are done on CRF actions such as the M-70's, CZ's/BRNO, Dakota 76's, and custom actions like the Granite Mt or original Mauser style either commercial or military 98's, Argentine's in particular demand.

M-700's are push feed and whether you agree with it or not they are NOT desired by most DG hunters for hunting DG. Now if we are talking accuracy rifles I 100% agree with Hank the 700 and 700 clones rule the roost in that arena.

I already own my "dream rifle",

At 7 pounds, it's been a joy to carry and shoot over the 25 plus years i've owned it too...

DR drillings are tanks, as are all 12ga. drillings, i have no use for a gun that heavy, to carry all day long!
