But even though the 1861 was my favorite hunting rifle yesterday, the most favorite hunting rifle is my 62 caliber Jeager, and that's what I hunt with most of the time. For exploring and trekking, sure can't beat a 94 or 92 Winchester.

No, that's not my salt-block. Found it way out in the woods, someone went to a lot of trouble to plant it where it was.

My LITTLE Harry Lawson very custom 600 Remington .308. It fits me and with the right hand can hang like a pistol at my side. It is light, under 7 pounds now scoped with a Swarovski Z6(i) 1.7-10x42 (BT) a lighter slimmer scope moreView attachment 958766 appropriate to rifle size . It is my go to hunting rifle and the blind magazine hold 5 shots . Notice bolt shroud and safety are fabricated modifications . Everything is trued and engine turned , has an icicle 2 pound trigger mechanism. Notice the recoil pad flair ! The stock is rather diminutive in dimentions and very light so the extra size of the pad is a joy, along with the custom brake ! This rifle was made in 1979 . I bought it 20 years ago with very little use on it. It is a MOA rifle to 300 yards with match ammo or Win 748 and Sierra 150 Game Kings :)

Thats a pretty good looking hunk of firewood under that thing .

I've always had a thing for the Mini-14. I got my first around '93/'94 but sold it since it was the non-ranch version and I wasn't a fan of the scope mount system. I then bought a ranch model a couple of years later that I still have. They're incredibly reliable, fun little rifles. I've thought about having the barrel threaded for a suppressor too. How long is the barrel on yours now?
Barrel itself is just under 16-1/2". Combo of a lot of rounds downrange and many years of a steel cleaning rod had taken its toll. I was tempted to go to 16 but didn't want to chance a crowning error accidentally going under. So cut 2 inches off the barrel, counterbored 3/8" to get into stronger rifling then faced and crowned. Filed a notch and refitted the pinned flash hider front sight which adds back about an inch.

this is Sunday, so can can i post a new favorite of the week.?
Its a sunny 55 Sunday afternoon, mrs is busily decorating for Christmas. I have done my part helping her by steadying her from falling backwards while she was four steps up on the stepladder.
I was told to, "go to the woods, or something".
Sometimes I like to go to my overlook camp and just ponder things, not interested in shooting anything, or disturbing the peace. I take along my. 204 handi-rifle, just in case that coyote that I saw flanking a nearby group of Tom turkeys shows himself.
Otherwise I will just sit and enjoy the solitude.

You Sir, know how to live. And having a wife that understands is another type of blessing.

Two things:

How's that libation? Always on the lookout for a new bourbon.

Secondly, is that hammer side extension a used steel pistol casing?

I really like the "Old Camp" peach/pecan whiskey. I'm not a connoisseur by any means, but I like the taste. i put it in the category of 'duck blind whiskey'. Flavored whiskey about 70 proof iirc. I like cinnamon whiskey too.

The hammer extension is factory. The steel casing is an interesting idea.

Looking at some reviews, sounds like a more upscale version of Southern Comfort, which I had a rocky relationship with when I was younger and raised more hell.

I'll give it a try if I see it on a shelf.
