I have one of the DPMS lightweight .338 Federals ... the other round I was considering in a AR-10 platform was a 300 WSM. I like the 338 Federal though, easy to load for, easy to shoot, big bullets and shoots just as flat as a 308 out to any range I'll ever use it for. Shorter bullets means less bearing surface and more case capacity - I can get 100-150fps more vel out of a 338 Federal with the same bullet weight as I can with a 308. It also shoots 225gr bullets well ... and still have 20 in the mag :)

Not likely to buy any of these, but .260 Rem or more likely 6.5 Creedmoor would be my choice - either one seems to add a lot for long-range shooting.

Sorry, 308 is my choice.

i think its a safe bet that it would be most folks first caliber for an ar10 platform if it was a hasty decision.

my first choice for a non 308 ar10 would be the 338 federal.

if im not mistaken, its a necked 308 case, and surpasses the parent cartridge in performance. i believe its a 308 length cartridge that approaches the old '06 in terms of pure power.

this was my first sentence in this thread.

but some quick research has me reconsidering that statement, at least where my opinion is concerned.

cool thread man.

Geez:banghead: There's only one caliber in AR-10. .308. Everything else is..... Well you figure it out. :D:D:D
