So, as I mentioned in the 'Best Rifle?' thread, here's a poll to see what the High Roaders favorite type of rifle.

Not really what you have the most of but what is your favorite type of rifle, overall.

I'll go first. I definately prefer bolt action rifles. Lever guns have their place and I've never had a semi auto or pump sporting gun and was never really turned on to the idea of the semi auto military style guns. Though I do like the heavy barrel guns for target fun, the carry weight bolt action guns are my favorite.

My current favorite is this Ruger Model 77 Mk II in 25-06. It still is pretty heavy, much more so than my 700 ADL. Grand Slam 3-10x40 scope. Had the trigger tweaked a bit down to just under 3# and the cartridge isn't too much of a kicker and but a very flat shooter. And it is still capable of taking most game within 200 or 300 miles of me. Mostly coyote for now.

Military Surplus followed by the "modern" semi-auto military, (Then again most of them have been around for quite sometime)

Favorite? I'm not sure but the rifle I carry and use most often is a Savage 116 in 30-06.

I like semi autos and lever guns just fine. I just don't shoot them as much as my pump shotgun. And my military bolt gun wieghs a LOT more than my Savage.

Go figure.

modern military semi's. because I really like ARs, M1As, Garands, etc. Never touched a FAL, but they look neat and seem like they'd be cool to have.

" Modern Military semi auto"...

I prefer the German ones, but any "MMsa" will work.

Swiss made MMsa's are neat too..:)

I'd settle for an American made one if I were in a SHTF situation though..

My favorites are heavy barreled varmint rifles. Presently have 3 Remington's and 2 Sakos.

Handloading enables me to find the most accurate loads for each gun as well as giving me an excuse to spend time in the basement with them.

I know, I know..........time would be better spent shooting them.

AR-15 because .223s are relatively cheap to shoot. Accuracy is decent and they're just plain fun.

Put me down for carry weight bolt action. I like hunting rifles FAR more than I like any other kind of rifle. And it's not that I haven't tried to like the others! ;) But I always come back to my hunting rifle when shooting for more than just fun.

BTW, my sporter is a Remington Model 700 Mountain Rifle in .260 Remington with a Leupold VX-1 2-7x33mm scope. Have yet to find a box-stock semi that can even come close accuracy-wise.
