Hello all,

I just bought a Yugo M70 Underfolder AK. This one was built by Century International Arms on a DC Industries receiver. I think the barrel may be new, but I'm not 100% sure.

Upon close inspection and cleaning the trash out of the bore, it appears that the gas port was drilled in the barrel ALL THE WAY THROUGH, from where the channel in the gas block meets the barrel on the "top" of the rifle all the way throgh the barrel and at least partially throgh the other (bottom) wall of the barrel. I can't tell with certainty if the hole goes all the way through the bottom wall of the barrel unless I remove the gas block, and I'm not equipped to do this.

IF YOU HAVE ONE OF THESE RIFLES, would you mind telling me if yours is the same way? In other words, is this normal for these Century Arms built M70's? Seems kind of strange to me. :scrutiny:

A also have a WASR-10 and the gas port was not drilled all the way through the other side of the barrel; neither is my SKS.

Thanks in advance for your help.

it allows them to function.
Say what? :uhoh:

The gas port needs to be drilled on the top of the barrel; it does NOT need to be punched thru the bottom as well (since there is no gas pickup there).

I can't say that it's normal for this run of AKs, since I don't own one, but it sounds like typical CAI sloppy workmanship. It won't effect much, though.

Sorry, reread the post and no it should not be drilled all the way through the top and bottom of the barrel. I would return it.

Thanks for the help folks...

Follow-up:

I went back to the show I bought it at and spoke to the dealer.

He didn't understand what I was talking about.:uhoh: I get the idea that he doesn't know much about guns except valuation.

He did, however, agree to exchange it anyway but he didn't have another one at the show (all were sold out). He gave me the option of coming by his shop or catching him at another show in about three weeks. Since the shop is 2.5 hours from where I live, I told him I'd see him in three weeks.

I never thought to inspect something like that THAT closely in the first place before I buy. I figured that kind of defect would never make it through quality control. Seems like I'll be bringing a bore light and full stripping everything I am considering buying in the future.

Thanks again folks! It's good to know that there's so many folks at THR willing to lend some advice and info in such a short time.
