So I see a guy at the range; I catch him there once every month or so. I ask if he likes his S&W Shield. He says it is new to him and he bought it six months ago and forgot to take in the Michigan Pistol Sales slip to the Sheriff but went in with it today and the person behind the window told him it was too late to turn it in and there was nothing he could do except now have an unregistered gun.
Anyone know Michigan law and how this would work? Seems like an odd thing for the sheriff's office to tell him. I told him to call State Police since they run the Michigan pistol registry.
I have known this guy a little bit for 25 years. He is in the medical profession. Upstanding guy. I doubt he is lying. He seemed puzzled but not worried. I thought it was illegal to have an unregistered handgun in Michigan.
Thoughts?
