Only one? At the end of the day, I prefer Sigs and I don't have patience or forgiveness to wait for $3000 gun to function reliably (affectionatly called "break-in period").

For autoloading pistols all my needs are filled by SIG and Walther.

If I only could have one semi-auto it would be my S&W 5903. Third generation S&W autos are reliable, accurate and workhorses. They are less expense than Sigs but still have all the main features.

Just for starters...Where's Kimber, Bersa and many others that are missing from your poll.

And guyfromohio, I'm one of those guys that had to do a 300 round "breakin" on his carry piece (Kimber UCC II). I know of no machinery that does not require a breakin period and besides, every one needs to put atleast 500 rounds down range with any new handgun for the [needed] practice, to get completely familar with the weapon and to insure it WILL function everytime.

Cant vote as I have 5 "go to" auto's. 2 CZ-75's, 2 Tauri, and an ATI that is fantanstic.

Oh, and a Bersa, 380 for church duty.

Mine is a kind of cheat. I selected 2, but they are actually under 1 parent company...

My CZs have always been flawless (triggers aren't wonderful out of the box, but easily fixed with a little elbow grease and a spring swap) and my DW Pointman7 has been as well.

Sig for me. I'm also a fan of H&K, Glocks and CZ. But when someone asks about a favorite I look at what does almost everything well. Well made, accurate, reliable and even things like not needing regular tinkering and ease of field stripping. Please remember this is only my humble opinion based on my experience.

I am a semi auto guy. I do have a M19 S&W. If I could only be one it would have to be a S&W whatever revolver. I believe that in the end, it would out last any auto when you consider recoil springs, mags, etc. For everyday use I still use my semi auto of the day but we're talking a totally different scenario here.

There is Glock and then there is just everything else!

I picked Smith & Wesson. My M&P 9C has been a trusty carry/range gun for years now. A nice 3913 is getting groomed to replace it now.

That HAD to be an OOPS.

I own 3 Springfields and 2 Rugers.

What, no ATI, Bersa or Charter Arms or Rock Island or Regent choices?

For now though, I'll stick with my SR9, EMP .40, CZ 83, S & W 66 Combat and one of the most underrated manufacturers, Bersa Thunder 9 UC Pro.

I won't include my Taurus mod 66b4 due to the headaches I've had with their lack of customer care.

Wow, tough call. I love the M&P line and I have to say my M&P9 Pro is my personal favorite pistol I own.

BUT, based on the OP's full question, I voted Glock.

If I could only have ONE handgun, it would be a Glock 19. It's the total package... Concealable, reliable, extremely common caliber, relatively inexpensive to shoot, good enough for self defense, and up to a 33-round capacity. Yeah, I don't own one, but it is on my short list for sure.
