If you had to rely on a new, "out of the box" auto...

Which semiauto handgun brand would you trust most "out of the box"?

I voted Glock since all their pistols are basically the same. Other brands have some less reliable models in the mix with their mainstay tried and true ones. That said, I did trust a used Sig P226 "out of the box" in Baghdad for 2 weeks (and an AK) before I had a chance to shoot it on a range.

I've owned everything on your list except Kimber and Sig, and I've owned quite a few guns by other manufacturers, too, like CZ, Bersa, Kel-Tec, and Colt. Of the new guns I've owned, it's easier to list the brands that have caused me trouble new out of the box: Taurus and High Standard (both revolvers) and Stoeger (a cheap American-made Luger I bought back in the 1970s). I probably wouldn't buy another Taurus, but I'd trust a new Stoeger shotgun out of the box, and I wouldn't be afraid to rely on any of the other brands on your list. That said, I'd be most comfortable with a Glock. I just bought my fourth one yesterday, so I back this up with my own money.

Since this is the autoloader forum, I've never had an issue with a SIG--its ergos fit me, the controls are easy to manipulate, and I would not hesitate to rely on one if that's what was required.

Hi All,
The most reliable pieces I have had NIB were FN or Browning Hi-Powers in both 40 S&W and 9mm. I have a CZ 75B NIB and a little over 100 rounds with NO failures.
Best,
Rob

I have to go with Glock. I've taken them right out of the box, new, with that bronze-looking anti-seize compound still on the rails. I've impatiently fired a hundred rounds, and every shot went bang.

Loading the brand-spanking-new magazines all the way up can be a pain, though.

If I had an hour beforehand to clean the grime out and oil it up, I'd add SIG, HK, and CZ to the list.

Every other brand I've owned has needed a "break in".

I am not a fan of semi-autos...but from what I have read about the Berettas, that is the one that I would choose.

I tried a Glock on a lark, and did not like the trigger. I am an old dog, and while I CAN learn new tricks, I do not like performng them. Put the Glock in the "New Trick" category.

I voted "other".

The only malfunctions I have had with any of these pistols happened when I was using a cheap KRD magazine. Just last week I was stripping some ammo from this mag and the follower stuck, so with the Browning or Mec-gar mags they have been perfect for thousands of rounds.Patrick

I have three CZs (two 75s, one P-01) I can't make them jam and they never have. I have tried holding them upside down and gangster sideways while only holding onto the bottom 2" of the grip while reaching up with my finger - they refuse. It's a game I call jam the CZ - the CZs always win.

Maybe somebody has a suggestion on how to make a CZ jam?

WOW, I cant believe how few Kimber votes there are, there must not be many Kimber owners here. I have two Kimber full sized, a Custom II and a Gold Match II (the newest) and in probably 5,000 rounds, not one failure that wasn't my fault. I bought a progressive loader too and there's a learning curve. LOL
