If you had to rely on a new, "out of the box" auto...

Which semiauto handgun brand would you trust most "out of the box"?

...for personal defense, which brand would you choose?

Which brand would you feel most confident in, reliability-wise, out of the box?

P.S. -- Yes, I know that you NEVER rely on any handgun for serious purposes without wringing it out first; this poll is just for fun, so don't stress, K?

At the time of my post, the odds were 100% in teh favor of Sig. There's your answer. :D

That said, for guns I have 1st hand experience with and would bet my life on, Sig, Glock, S&W and Ruger are my go-to's.

I have three handguns made by FN. I've never had a single failure of any kind through thousands of rounds. A Browning(FN) Hi-Power, FNP9 and a FNP45.
I would never give any of them up:)

I'd have to say HK.

Yeah, I know I'm going to catch crap for it, but they do make extremely reliable pistols. I've owned three and have put thousands upon thousands of rounds down range without failures. The only failure I've ever had was failure for slide to lock back once on my P2000SK.

Sigs are great reliable guns, too, but I don't have as many rounds down range with them so I can't really go with Sig.

I have a Ruger P90 that has not had any failures, but I haven't even put 1000 rounds through it yet.

I've never shot a Walther, Glock, Beretta, Kimber, or a Smith and Wesson auto. The only Taurus I have is a revolver, so that's apples to oranges. I did used to have a springfield XD, which had a single failure to feed, but I believe it was due to ammo. The bullet looked as if it wasn't set back far enough.

I voted for Glock and I don't own a Glock or particularly like Glocks (for me). Yet, they are VERY reliable out of the box. On the other hand, many 1911s have to be broken in and sometimes even adjusted. I own several 1911s and often carry one (a Sig) for defense. However, I would never trust my life on one until I had shot it enough.

Now, the Les Baer PII was specifically mentioned. Les Baers are wonderful guns but they have a reputation for being VERY tight. Les Baer recommends 500 rounds as a break-in period on most (all?) his pistols. This is NOT out-of-the-box reliability. Obviously, individuals will have different experiences and may never suffer a problem. But I wouldn't bet my life on it.

Some of the brands you listed make several types of pistols so it isn't really fair to lump the different models together. The traditional Sigs have reputations for being reliable but they also make 1911s. Some SWs are very reliable out of the box and some models have been less so.

XD....I bought one this past Monday, it went 80 rounds today without a single bobble, my reloads no less.:D Its trustworthy.:)

sig or S & W revoler... for pulling it from the box, load, then shoot...

Xd 45

It's brand new out of the box. I shot about 500 rounds of all types and brands-even a few of my buddies reloads and not a hiccup yet. Not even when it was -15 degrees out. I just cleaned it today!

There are particular models by all the listed manufacturers that I'd trust right out of the box to be reliable and others I wouldn't.

I've owned models from all of these brands in the past. The only brands of mine that were 100 reliable out of this list: Ruger, Glock, HK, and Beretta. I had failures and reliability issues in every other brand listed of one type or another, including a Sig, and an older S&W revolver that would bind up.

Im going to have to say CZ, as mine has never failed in any way. Of course, had I brounght a GLOCK I would most likely not have expirienced problems either, and a H&K, Ruger or whatever may have been just as flawless. Its hard to tell which one would be 'most reliable' out of the box when you dont really expect to have any problems with any gun from high end manufacturers, unless you get a lemon that is.

I've seen several hundred Glocks and S&W autos fired for the first time when I was a LE Firearms Instructor. I never saw one that had a gun related mlfunction out of the box. In the National Guard I ran the M9 range when we first qualified with them and zero malfunctions out of the 100 or so at the range. Of all the guns you listed the only one I don't have a decent (at least 25, maybe not all) sampling would be the Kimber and never saw anyone of them nor work because of the gun.

You have quality firerarms listed and would trust any of them to work out of the box. This might be listed as "what's your favorite gun" thread .

I voted Glock, based on my M-29, which has had zero issues. If we were able to make multiple choices, I would have also chosen Sig, Browning HP, and Bersa .380.
