If you had to rely on a new, "out of the box" auto...

Which semiauto handgun brand would you trust most "out of the box"?

The ONLY reliable semi auto gun I ever would trust my life to is the Walther P99 because James Bond is using it and i've never seen it Jam in the Movie!

And Wolf ammo is bad, .40 caliber Glocks all go ka-boom, the AR15/M16 platform doesn't work, 9mm can't kill anyone, .223/5.56 can't kill anyone....

I now have to rethink my entire self defense plan.

There is no one gun answer to this poll as over the last 45 years I have found Colt, Ruger, Beretta, SIG, HK, Interarms and many others to be reliable right out of the box.

I purchased a NIB Sterling many years ago that was trouble free and reliable right out of the box and continued to be for as long as I owned it!

From what I have read here on THR and other gun related websites I must have owned the only Sterling ever produced that was trouble free and reliable to the point it could be trusted for tasks beyond plinking. :neener:

I can't believe that Ruger ranks as low as it does!!!! Everyone who owns a Ruger can't shut-up about how reliable it is.

Edit to add Jlangton's reply to my previous comment:
I'm with you. I've had experience with both of the same guns, and have the same conclusion. Both eat any ammo you fill the mags up with, and I've never had a single jam, FTF, or FTE with either of them. According to some, they're not the best looking guns out there, and are a bit heavy, but reliability is there. Aim,pull,bang-Every time.

This seems fairly typical of people's experience. I only own a Ruger revolver, but my experience with their semi's (my friends have some) is that you just absolutely cannot kill them or make them stop no matter what you do.

You can start with the best: Glock 20 and 29.

I've got a 21/22/26/29 currently. Am looking to sell my like new Beretta 92FS and get a 17 or 19.

Its a disease I tell you....:banghead:

Springfield XD9 here. Possibly going to pick up another XD in bi-tone subcompact.

Good grief, 48 people said Springfield. The mind boggles.

Only because my SA MC Operator 1911 has been spectactular after about a thousand rounds. Everyone talks about how finnicky 1911's can be, but this gun hasnt come close to missing a beat. :)

my votes in glock and HK. i love kimber to death but they come out of the factory so tight that it takes a little rattling to get it up to speed.

Walther P5 or HK P7PSP. Nothing more Nothing less! Hard to beat German craftsmanship!!!!!!:D:D

I think it is WAY too general to go by brand. My XDs are 100% reliable and have been from day 1. I would be quite comfortable recommending them. That does not mean I would give a sight-unseen, carte blanc endorsement to the rest of Springfield's guns.
