What will you be shooting to bring the New Year in?

Firearms on New Year’s Eve always seems like a bad idea to me - alcohol flowing and guns a blazon’ usually in a non-range environment - Lucy, you got some splaynin’ to do!

I may go to the *range* on New Year's. If so I will likely work with my .22 autos.

I'll be shooting this!

I got it for free, rescued from the trash bin!
I knew it was not a broken autoloader, just a rusted ol' Stevens bolt action.

A whole can of brake cleaner and some Penetro 90 later and I have a mostly working, broken stocked, no choke 12gauge!:D

I am totally shooting this into the air on New Years!:p

In the coming year I will learn to shave a new stock from my Cherry reserve and learn to polish and blue a firearm.

It will be 58 today, so I am not waiting for New years! Anytime I can shoot, in Wis., in just a sweatshirt, at the end of Dec., is a great blessing. I am glad I walked out back of the deck, yesterday, though, to set up the filled waterbottles, and targets, as we got over an inch of rain, last night. I got out 3 of the revolvers, and one AR10, and heading to the deck, very soon. I have neighbors, within a mile, so, on a Sunday morning, I don't want to wake anyone. I have never had a problem with complaints, but then again, I never want to rock the boat, either. Happy early New years!

I have been known to shoot a round of clays on new year's day .

I wish there was a good place to meet with some thr friends for a round! 20170101_132903.jpg
I have also bee. Thinking of this as a noisemaker toy for special occasions....

I'm thinking that it would be a great way to get rid of old pyrodex and BP that people give me from time to time.

I have some 44 blanks I'll be shooting into the air. I feel it's fun to shoot into the sky and with blanks it's safe.

I usually reserve some mortar shells from the independence day celebration. Aim them out over the river and they will hurt no one. They add to the festivities without without causing concern for dropping projectiles.

I just stepped away from my work bench where I am doing some trigger work to my CZ 75B. I suspect that will be what I am shooting. That and my Contender. I rarely go to the range without it.

New year's day, a pair of his n her Wranglers and a new G43. Need to zero in an (ugh) inline ml also.

One of these, not this one, though. I will get pictures of the actual gun this time:

The "Hangover shoot" at Mpls. Gun Club. is a 50 bird event, 25 at 16 25 at 25 yards or your actual handicap, if farther back.

W. Bittle, you must be thinking of Dallas at midnight on New Year's Eve. Come on up to Prior Lake, MN, Armored Farmer, starts at noon. You might only have one friend when you walk in (me), but you'll leave with many. You might even know some of them from Sparta.

Probably on the afternoon of the 31st my step grand daughter and I will be at a friends place for some celebratory plinking with .22's and one or two 9mm's. Got myself a new steel target as a Christmas present to me and haven't even shot it yet. This will all be done in the afternoon before it gets dark just after 4:30 and without any alcohol involved. I may have a beer later but alcohol and guns are never mixed and we can celebrate just fine without it. In fact; I'd rather plink than drink.

Seriously, don't shoot guns in the air on New Years Eve.

It's a big thing in the Hispanic community down in Yuma and my folks say there is always lots of damage found the next day to cars and roofs.
I thought this was disproved. Waste of ammo for sure, but I thought I read that the reality of it, was no physical damage is done.

Like a small stone falling. But to hit all those cars? Seems like an improbability. And to actually cause damage to a roof??

I don't advocate it btw.

I am sure glad I didn't wait for New Years Eve, because I sure had fun shooting, when it was 50, as now it is 22, with 30 mile per hour winds, and snow. It was also alot more enjoyable shooting at all my targets out the back deck, then shooting up in the air at nothing. Stay safe out there, everyone.

Don’t Want to shoot Anything tomorrow. Will be driving from the Medical Center in north Ft. Walton Beach FL with my Sig P6 to west TN. While briefly visiting hospital, yes, the gun will be in the car safe.....

Would like to use this and the new VZ-58 (CSA) when back in town (then the CZ PCR and Walther P99).. I changed the P6’ mainspring to a 20 lbs. spring.

Disproved by whom?

After working in Los Angeles for many years I can tell you that bullets coming back to the ground after morons, idiots and drunks fire them into the air do cause damage to cars and roofs. I do not recall anyone ever being hit by one though.

I had a guy that worked for me call in late because his car wouldn’t start. A 9mm bullet had gone through his hood and took out the control module on his fuel injection system.

I had a couple of people find roof damage on their houses from bullets. They had to replace shingles due to roof leaks.

One night in the rail yard myself and another guy were working on a train and heard a “snap” on the pavement nearby. When my coworker went to where he heard the sound he found what appeared to be a 9mm FMJ bullet imbedded in the pavement and it had enough deformity to it that it was obvious if it hit someone it would have caused some damage. Not sure how much. I have no idea where the shot came from.

I used to empty my (at the time) loudest gun -gp100, into the ground at midnight. Now I'm older and (hopefully) have little ones sleeping inside. So the fireworks and gunshots get my German shepherd going crazy, wakes the babies, gets me running around trying to get everyone settled just in time for the next BOOOOM. I don't look forward to that on new years or the 4th.

I know exactly what you mean. My poor dog gets so scared. We got her some meds from the veterinarian to calm her down.
This will be my first NYE in the house / neighborhood we live in now so I am not sure what to expect. If the 4th of July was any indication it’s going to be a noisy night tonight.
