Moot point . No one around here is stupid enough to shoot across a road. Some people talk out of their a—.

I would attempt to address it directly with them as long as I felt ok about it. If I thought there were druggies there or bad company or something along those lines I’d just call in. If it’s a family setting then I’d go have a chat with the owner. Don’t go over there mad as that will most likely not get the desired result. Just be calm and professional and explain the situation. Could have just been the kids not knowing or thinking. I feel like any reasonable person would correct that.

Call it in. I am not currently in a profession, getting paid to deal with people shooting dangerously. The wrong phrasing, or swagger to the shooter and you become the target instead. Maybe the police send someone out, maybe they don't. That isn't up to you to deal with. If the shooting poses an immediate threat, find an alternate route to where you are going.
Why should someone make an alternate route cause a bunch of rednecks are firing rounds across a road? What would you do if they were shooting into your backyard....MOVE AND RUNAWAY?

I would guess it is illegal to fire across a roadway in all states, but can't say that for sure. Heck is illegal fire across a road/trail on Federal lands even if out in the middle of a desert.

As for calling a local LE. If people are afraid of them obtaining your number, find a pay phone (there are more out there than you would think).

see something, say something.
Yup..around here, there are 3 National Forest uncontrolled shooting areas and the county commissioners where one is located would love a reason to shut them down...Guy a few areas down last Sat had a full auto something too(sounded like it)..he may be perfectly legal to have but that and all the trash, glass, shot up empty beer cans...shooter is being dumb..call someone.

Depends on how well you know them. If you don't know them well, you risk finding out they're morons or sociopaths and things will not go well. Then it's best left to law enforcement. It's hard to imagine people being worth befriending when they're that ignorant and dangerous. It's the age-old question of, am I my brother's keeper, or is that way above my pay grade?

For me personally, there are too many variables and unknowns to stop and say something. You never know who you are dealing with.

Let me get my flame suit on.....

As for calling the authorities, it would depend on many things. Yes it is not lawful to shoot across a road, at least in my state. As to whether it's unsafe and reckless. ...without knowing the area, traffic and people involved it's impossible to say. You might be surprised how often it happens. We can criticize the shooters all we want but think of this. How many laws do we break daily ? Speeding, j walking and such. All laws put in to make society safer.

IIRC at one time it was legal in PA to shoot across a roadway as long as the line of fire was high enough! which sounds dangerous to me.
I do know one way to have a game warden have a melt down was to have a rifle leaning against a motor Veh.

I don't think comparing someone going a couple of mph over the speed limit to someone shooting firearms across a road with women and children driving on it is a valid comparison.

You are correct, I just looked it up. I thought that changed back in the 90's.

I had to change my vote from what I had voted for after reading the first post.
If it was a neighbor down the road I would drive down to them & have a talk with then to give them advice on how to properly shoot & the safety aspects of their actions. Not wanting anyone to loose their gun privileges, it's not only bad for them but it looks bad on all gun owners.
If I was just driving down the road & saw it happen, I would just call it in.

If the speeder collides with another car or pedestrian, it is.

Not that a collision at 1mph under the limit is "safe," but like the other poster implied, laws can be somewhat arbitrary.

Definitely report it, not wise to confront an idiot with a gun. These fools make us all look bad, & I have enough trouble being a gun owner without their illegal behavior.

No matter who it is, a person handling a firearm in an unlawful and dangerous manner poses a risk to innocents.

One does not have the legal authority to intervene personally, and the persons may not react well to anyone who appears to believe that he has superior judgment.

Intervention by officers of the law is much preferable to getting involved personally.

Another new low at THR.

Just walk up and say ''hi''. Show them some pics of your collection and hang out for a bit. Ask why they aren't on the other side of the road. Chances are they check for traffic before shooting. You don't have to storm over there and pee on their chair.

It's southern Ohio. There's guns out all over the place.

Is this the conservative version of virtue signaling now?

Ohh, ahh, look how safe you guys are. Yay. Can we have another thread about how someone said the word ''clip'' again?
