Thanks guys. :)

So far so good. Now I'm just waiting for the proof copy approval, and we're rolling.

...the rough draft for the first portion of the Mr. Nightcrawler Trilogy III.

Damn, I missed a lot.
I never even got the finished ver of the dueling authers thread.
Just what I had cut/pasted from the forum...

we have been cursed by the death star. HD crashes are no fun.
specialy when your new pc won't see your backup media.

Per the basic premise...

One of my favorite quotes is "most horror movies would be cut well short if someone had a 12-gauge and the sense to use it."
Presumably the story would be more interesting.
Presumably Correia has a more interesting story.

I just saw "Signs" with Mel Gibson last weekend. Yes, I'd say I found myself yelling at Mel most of the movie. Why use a baseball bat on an alien when you can use a 12 gauge?
Signs required a lot of suspension of disbelief. I was able to swallow most of it and just go with it, but two points caused me to choke.

1. Aliens from outer space would come to Earth to harvest humans, and bring no weapons with them.

2. There is a town in rural Pennsylvania where there are no deer rifles, owned by chawl-dippin' good ole boys who would look upon an invasion of Little Green Men as a chance to put something really interesting over the mantle. Silliness!

Still a fun movie.

Mike

I'm still waiting on the proof copy. I was hoping to hit Christmas, but that is looking more doubtful by the day. (that's why I wanted to do check and CC# so I wouldn't cash anything or charge any cards until I'm ready to ship).

Bogie, I appreciate the offer. As soon as I hit Amazon availability (which means they can also order direct from the publisher) I'm going to bug everybody that preordered that liked the book to tell their local bookstores that the book is awesome. As a self published writer, my only hope for success is word of mouth.

ctdonath, I think it is pretty interesting. I hope you guys do too. :)

Basically, if you just had a monster, and you could kill it with a shotgun, that would make for a dull book, so you can correct that by adding A. Tougher monsters. B. More monsters.

I did both.

3. The aliens are deathly allergic to water, yet they come to a planet made up of 70% water.

I know someone that works at Barnes and Noble and someone that works at Borders...I'll notify them as soon as its available.

so, it sure sounds like a good book to me.

At what point can I call up barnes and noble and ask if they have it?

I realize that buying it directly from you will probably mean more money to you in the short run, but do you think having some people special order it from regular big chain bookstores will make them perk up and take more notice?

I'd hate to order one now, then walk into B&N, ask for it, then find out they have it and get stuck buying two (although I am sure you wouldn't mind) I'd think that asking about it then declining to actually buy it/special order it would probably be the worse of both worlds, so if you don't think asking for it at the service desk would be helpful let me know

akodo, yeah, I make more money when ordered directly from me (which believe me, right off the bat is super handy) because the preorder has paid for my set up, and enables me to buy a lot of books for myself to distribute, but ordering from B&N or Amazon is actually more valuable in the long term, because I want to get the numbers up.

See, as a self published guy, if I ever want to get any measure of success, I need to be able to show publishers that I've had success marketing myself. Purchases from Amazon or B&N are easily trackable stats.

And as soon as it is available, believe me, I'll be spamming it all over the interweb. :)

Larry, another suggestion - get a buncha el-cheapo business cards printed up - you can go full color for NOT a lot of money... You can probably score 5,000 of them for under a hundred bucks. Include a dozen or so with each preorder book, so that instead of loaning the books to our friends who never return them, they can hand 'em a card with ordering info on it...

Any updates on shipping dates for the book?

Need more to read on these cold dark winter nights!

Cool!

I've got just about every other Zombie/Vampire/Infected/Teotwawki/Shtf novel and movie out there right now and I'm always looking for new material to read and watch.

Is it gonna be on amazon.com cross referenced with all the other books of that type?

That might get you a wider audience of horror freaks looking at it and buying it.

I got the proof copies. I pounded through it in 24 hours. Now it is with THR member Curly (professional proof-reader) for a final read through. When I talked to him yesterday, he was 3/4 of the way through, and will have it to me today. I'm going to 2nd Day Air it back to the publisher.

We should be shippng within the next couple of weeks.

It is pretty weird to actually hold a book in your hand, that you actually wrote. :)

And it will be on Amazon. That's one reason I did this preorder, was to get a bunch of books out there fast, so that there would be some buzz and some reviews when it actually hit Amazon's sales.
