EDC

Handgun- HK45 Compact Tactical. I can conceal it if need be, plus I can run a can and have +p+ loads. Dealing with Master Vampires is something you are going to need everything you got

SMG- HK UMP because they don't make an MP5 in .45. Not only am I an HK fan, but these things are very reliable as well.

Rifle- HK G3k with collapsing stock.

Shotgun- Remington 870 Police Model (deep blued finish, chrome bolt.

SHTF

Handgun- Mark 23 Mod 0 Socom with insight visible/ir illumination, and a can. This is the obvious choice if you need a handgun in battle. See the "Bet the Farm Thread" for more info.

SMG- UMP 45 again.

Rifle- HKG3 w/ HK69 grenade launcher. I'll have a 50 round drum or two on me in case I'm in Natchy Bottom...Or the UP Michigan. ;)

Shotgun- Benelli M1S90 W/ pistol grip, ghost rings, mag extension, and light. I'm old school and this shotgun still impresses me.

As you can see, I'm a huge HK fan. But when lives are at stake you leave nothing to chace...No compromise. :)

Since I am bored, here is a revamped line up.

Stoeger Cougar .45

Bushmaster Magpul .308 MOE-ML

Tromix MKA 1919 14" SBS

Kriss Super V SMG with 2 round burst

I'll play!

1. Springfield XDm .45
2. HK UMP-45
3. AR10 / M-60
4. AA-12

for pistol, even though it's an obvious choice, i'd do a custom STI 2011. i know, how original am i?

subgun, ump .45. in .45, you're limited.

rifle, my first choice would be Vera. since that's impossible (and a SAIGA frame anyway), AR-10. start with a flattop armalite and just go from there. JP low mass carrier and bolt, eighteen inch Krieger barrel, Geissele Trigger. top it with an ELCAN SpecterDR. Magpul PRS adjustable stock.

shotgun, spas-15. need the pump for alternative rounds, like the dradle slugs he was given. and the 15 uses a box magazine, like the SAIGA. also, i'd probably throw an M26 MASS on the AR-10 as well. so, technically, there'd be two shotguns.

if i weren't limited in caliber, i'd do a 10mm sub and a .50 Beowulf for the rifle.

Alrighty, I'll play. Mostly because I absolutely tore through the MHI books. Thoroughly entertaining.

.45 ACP would include a 1911 and an XD tactical.
12 guage would be a Mossberg with an 18 inch barrel, IC choke and adjustable rifle sights.
.308 would be an AR-10 with an ACOG.

Now for the absolutley crazy, run with the whole MHI thing and go over the top:
.45ACP would be a thompson and an XD.
12 guage would be one of those "Streetsweeper" drum fed shotguns.
.308 would be an M240.

Streetsweeper... Completely forgot about those. That would have came in handy for Owen at the beginning of the second book!

.45 Pistol: Berretta Px4 Storm
SubCarbine: Silenced, FA, AR based, 11.5" Barrel, 300 blackout (its 30 cal), Beta C Mags (another advantage to the 300BLK is uses normal AR mags :))
Rifle: Parker Hale M82 C3A1
Shotgun: Converted Saiga 12

JUST FOR THE HELL OF IT: Can someone please equip my ride with a MK19???

But since I'm a stubborn and handy feller, I'll melt down the company lead and cast/swage whatever I want to use

Pistol: FN 5.7

SubCarb: Same as above

Rifle: Barrett M82

Shotgun : Same

Webley VI topbreak, since I'm left-handed and if nothing else I can always cite the Samaritan from Hellboy as precedent.

Then for a shotgun a Saiga-12, since Saiga-12s are good. No folding stock like Abomination, though. I hate folding stocks.

Submachineguns are an obsolete concept, though monster hunting I suppose is much more CQB than real rifle work, and reliable automatic rifles weren't always available before the fifties. I have no preference in the modern era, but for pre-1950 I'd say a shoulder-stocked Schnellfuerer C96 covers the best firepower-and-duration-of-historical-availability balance.

For modern rifle, I'd just go for a vanilla FAL with a SUIT.

However, if we are talking olden days, I'd want a Ross 1905 or a Winchester '95 military. Fast, slick action and superb accuracy would make it a great monster-dropper without having to beat myself with some hugeass safari caliber.

Though a certain part of me would want a drilling. 16x16x9,3x72r with a bayonet lug and external hammers.

• Semmerling LM4*
• STI Edge in .45 ACP.
• LaRue OBR in .308.
• Benelli M2 12 gauge (Or one of the new MKA 1919s, once it's shown they can be built into a beast.)
• Milkor MGL. What it lacks in silver-laced ammunition, it more than makes up for with bore size.

*Thereby cementing both my gun dork and urban fantasy nerd cred.

Justin, I met F. Paul Wilson the other day. Being a professional writer peer went right out the window and I was just another squeeling fanboy. :D

I'd rather have a .45 ACP pistol, a .308 carbine with an aimpoint, a .308 rifle (semi-auto) with an ACOG, and a 12-gauge. My carbine would replace the .45 carbine.

I'm thinking that an evening hanging out with Owen and Repairman Jack would result in some pretty awesome stories.

:D

You should have told him that he ought to demand that Michael Mann do a remake of The Keep, because that movie should have been awesome.

Who needs 4? I'll list 3, in 2 distinct style sets:

Modern Combat Style:

1. HK USP Full Size (.45 ACP)
2. LMT .308 (.308/7.62)
3. Benelli M4

Cool Western Style:

1. Ruger Blackhawk (.45 Colt)
2. Marlin 1895 Guide Gun (.45-70)
3. Stoeger Coach Gun

Another author friend, Dan Wells, was with me at World Fantasy Con in San Diego last week. He walked up as I was talking to F. Paul Wilson. Afterward he told me "I've seen you meet a lot of authors, but I've never seen you go all squeeing fan boy before." :D

Larry, thought you should know that if Harry Harrison picks an author to continue writing Stainless Steel Rat books, I think you should be the guy (HH is quite old).
Lorenzo from Dead Six reminded me of a deadly version of Jim DiGriz/Stainless Steel rat, with a very similar wry observational humor.

I am going through withdrawal I need a new MHI book soon Larry

with that being said

1.) FNH FNP45 Tactical with RMR X400 and Osprey Suppressor
1-a.) Colt Commander 1911 (for carry)
2.) Remington 700 SPS Tactical decked out to the hills
3.) M3 "grease gun" just for Dad
4.) Mossberg 590A1

the M3 could be replaced by a MPA Carbine (Im not a fan of full auto anyway)
and the Mossberg could maybe be replaced by a FN SLP if I wanted semiauto
im a shotgun type of guy but if I had to have a rifle for entry probably just go with an AR10

so when can we start drooling in anticipation for a new MHI book?

You just convinced me to read Larry's books! :D

I'm on Chapter 5 of the 1st book and have to say it's very interesting. Monsters aren't really my thing but this book is definitely worth picking up.

If I can choose anything:

Tricked out Witness or CZ 97
Kris subgun
BAR (would have to load the the 308 bullets into 30-06 cases, but controllable FA 30 caliber)
FN SLP

I actually liked the 1983 film version of the Keep, as well as F. Paul Wilson's book. I thought the visuals were great and the Tangerine Dream synth score worked better than it had a right to.

I think Michael Mann would nonetheless be the wrong person to direct a remake. Not sure who I'd pick, but I think Mann's sensibilities have moved in a different direction.
